Calipers

I didn't see any old posts about this so hopefully it hasn't been asked before.

My EKG class says we need our own calipers. Is there a good option that isn't overkill or does anything work? Amazon has them around $10 but I always am hesitant getting supplies from there.

A sad State

Looking into voter turnout, and even though primaries are not an accurate reflection of the actual turnout we will see, I can't help but think of how damaging these past few years have been. The biggest excuse I heard for years was "our votes don't matter," and our current leadership has helped to prove that this may actually be true. It's hard to talk to people who are toward the middle or on the fence and convince them that they should cast their vote when we are shown that we have no power to hold our elected officials accountable. To anyone that this may be affecting, just know I understand but still choose to try and push for the changes we need to better our state.

Getting the word out

Hi all. I am looking for some advice on how to spread the word about a new youth theatre that is offering workshops starting this fall. We have gone around and put up flyers, ran ads through Google and Facebook, and done a table at a community event.

The main thing is funds are still small while a board is being formed and nonprofit status is being set up. Many community events cost hundreds of dollars for a table and the best locations for flyers either require nonprofit status or only advertise free services.

The first workshops are in fall during LPS days off. Does anyone know of resources that people with elementary age kids would see?

SD appreciation

SD was so proud to announce that they set up a nacho bar in the breakroom because we are all "Rockstars." This is the result for 150+ people.

The Pokémon fiasco

So, per the WAU Pokémon cards will be set in the aisle. With this in mind, please *don't* accidently remove the out plastic on the product because then it has no value to the resellers. It would be *terrible* if these cards for children were no longer able to be scalped and actually sold for their intended value to said children.

Another homerun for Bradec

I can not recommend Bradec enough for anyone looking for an affordable holster.

Safe storage

The topic came up recently with a lot of people bringing up all the same tired talking points. My thing with this is that it's probably the closest to actual common sense gun reform.

To start, I will say my biggest concern is pricing out low income owners. For states where the cost to even hold a gun is more than the gun itself it's bot hard to see them going beyond reason and requiring proof of a set up that costs more than a standard glock. But for the most part, requiring (and even providing) a base level lockbox seems reasonable.

The second thing is I don't think there should be any invasive procedures to prove that the gun is always secure. Instead, I think these laws should be used to prosecute gun owners who are proven to negligently leave their guns unsecured, resulting in their use in a crime. Such as a teenager walking into their parents' closet and grabbing a fully loaded AR15 to commit a school shooting.

In the discussion, the biggest excuses given were that it doesn't change 90% of cases, but the NIJ lists a stat of 80% of kids getting their guns from the home to commit violent acts. This alone would be a great reason. Even if it only stops 1% of total acts, it's still more than doing nothing. Another is that it slows down access, but even my spin-dial box is easy enough to access that I can get to my gun in under 30 seconds.

Anything I'm missing?

Donations

We just had a fundraising yard sale and have a lot left to donate. The clothing, baby stuff, and bedding will all be going to People City Mission. However we are drawing a blank on where to take the other stuff. Mostly its older stoneware plates and random other housewares. A few old electronics like projectors.

Where is a good place that actually helps people? We will not donate to Goodwill so we are interested to know if anyone has recommendations for other thrift stores or other charitable causes.

It's hard to live around such blatant idiocy

Smallish city in Nebraska (my home state), a loaded shotgun was discharged by a dog. Not a ton of additional information, but using critical thinking it's safe to assume the gun was on the floor of the truck or on a seat that allowed the dog to discharge it. These are the type of people who boast that they grew up with guns and learned firearm safety at a young age.

I am working on my degree in paramedics. I have my NREMT and state license. However, I can not find anywhere around that is providing CPAT. LFR said they do not have anything coming up and suggested Omaha, but MCC also does not have any classes posted.

Does anyone have information on where and how I can sign up for a course near Lincoln?
