Any multi-vitamin recommendations?

I've always thought they were a scam but my primary GP said I was losing weight so fast I should start taking it cause of my lack of eating.

My emergency doctor friend also concur with that medical advice.

but like...which multi-vitamin is legit and which ones are scams?

What do you think it'll be like for a older person to study a Bachelor of Arts at ANU?

G'day all,

So I'm 31 years old, and recently quit my job as an electrician. Today I applied to study at ANU, hopefully to do BARTS.

I plan in majoring in Philosophy and figuring out what other various topics I'll like doing. Maybe a minor in English.

While it may seem silly, my intention is to enjoy the degree, study random subjects that I think I'd enjoy and embrace the 'uni' life. Zero intention of getting a job in this field.

I just want to study for studies sake.

As an older person I don't expect to make any friends with you youglings I do hope to at least get along with you.

How do you think this will go? Terrible or at least somewhat fun?

Wouldn't most unemployment problems be solved via a influx entry-level jobs that provides training?

I've noticed in recent times that a lot of jobs that get posted on seek.com are awfully specific in what they need in someone. Especially if they have "previous experience".

For example, there was a job posting I saw that said something along the lines of "Generic Real Estate Agency looking for entry-level admin assistant, training provided".

And it got over 970 applicants.

All the other job postings in my area usually have fewer than 10 applicants per job.

I think this tells me that people want to work, they just don't have the skills, confidence or employment history to get their foot in the door.

Nowadays, the Australian job market is all about hiring those with previous experience rather than giving someone a fair go, taking a bet on them and training them.

Weird request: Does anyone have a video copy of Jackie Chan in Canberra posing on a tree guard?

As a kid, I remember watching on my CRT TV of a Canberra specific ad of Jackie Chan doing a pose in the attached photo. He was in dickson, back when it was China Town.

I recall my auntie being friends with his parents. But I personally never met them or Jackie himself.

Back in the late 90's to early 00's btw.

Rebecca Romijn has so much aura.

She plays Una Chin Riley (AKA number one) so well.

Her dialogue is few, but her presence is felt.

It's going to be a sad day when Season 5 ends and we won't get to see Rebecca as Una anymore.

Career advice for a tradie who wants to be a primary school teacher.

G'day underappreciated legends.

For context: I am an electrician and 31 years old. After finishing my apprenticeship I became a electrical TAFE teacher who taught physics, high school level maths and electrical theory to apprentices. I did this for two years and enjoyed it immensely. Unfortunately due to the behavior of apprentices I opted to leave that career.

Despite that, I know teaching is a passion of mine. Specifically I think I would like to do primary school teaching. Every time I see my friends kids, I feel that urge to teach them about the world.

(Sounds kinda lame but it's true). And the thought of teaching teenagers (again) kinda annoys me.

I was thinking of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at the Australian National University (with majors in philosophy and a minor in English) then do a Masters of Teaching at the University of Canberra (UC). Ironic, I know. But maths was never my thing. Essay writing was, I dropped out of law at UC when I was younger.

Or would it be better to do a Bachelor of Primary Education at UC as the fastest pathway? (Sub specialties include Creative Arts and PE, and STEM.

I am open to doing the Bachelor of Primary Education STEM at UC if it means I fulfill a shortage. I am actually decent at maths and science.

If you were in my position, knowing what you know, what advice could you impart to me?

When was the moment the electrical trade 'clicked' for you?

Quite often we all say the old adage "You do the real learning after you're qualified".

I did not feel prepared to be a qualified electrician after finishing capstone.

It wasn't until 2 years post-apprenticeship I was asked by my sister's family-in-law to do a bit of fault finding on their circuit.

Had my trusty multimeter, IR tester and a trailing lead.

Started to turn off the main switch, locked it out, disconnect the MEN and did a whole bunch of dead testing to figure out if it was the RCBO, circuit or appliance that was tripping.

But honestly, when I recall that moment, I had the strangest feeling.

I felt like I just knew how it all worked.

Hand to God, I was a clueless for those first two years. Didn't feel too confident that I was meant to be an electrician. Had the license and was working as one but you might as well thought I was a 1st year with the way I carried myself.

What was the moment for you when you felt confident?

"One tradie dies in Australia every two days, not from workplace accidents but suicide. It's a tough topic to talk about, but these two chippies are on a mission to break the silence."

Good on those blokes for talking about their struggles.

Remember, construction work can be difficult on you mentally.

My observation so far with the eldest gen alpha entering workforce.

Move aside Gen Z, the Gen alpha's gonna get a bitching session now.

For context: My company does this thing we we take on apprentices from various fields that don't normally do resi work. I get team up with them to show them the ropes. I get apprentices from lift, distribution, switchboard factories etc

This week, I was teamed up with a couple of ASBA apprentices who were all aged 16 years old.

Their memory is...shocking to say the least.

Literally ipad kids all their lives.

I give them simple instructions like "This drum is called a two core and earth. It's 2.5mm"

And not a 10 seconds later they ask again "What is this called again?

When I asked both of them to get me a drum of 2.5mm two core and earth. They came back empty handed asking what it was AGAIN.

Like wtf?

Even the youngest Gen Z never had this problem. If anything, Gen Z were all awkward fucking teenagers who couldn't even make a phone call.

But Gen alpha? Their memories are cooked.

I feel like all of us will need to do a bit of extra hand holding with this new generation coming into the workforce.

Why are tradies so well paid in Australia compared to many other professions

I've recently discovered that over in the US the median electrician salary is USD63k, whilst electrical engineers it's USD118k

https://www.bls.gov/ooh/

Yet here in Australia both professions are pretty much on par in terms on pay.

Median electrician salary is AUD100k whilst electrical enginners earn AUD115k.

Or is it a case of engineers in Australia being under paid.

Edit: I've had multiple comments point that 63kUSD is about 90kAUD and the US generally has lower COL, taxes, etc.

But my point still stands about engineers being underpaid in AUS.

Considering electrical engineers in the US earn almost double electricians. Which argubly makes sense given EE is a very technical skilled profession that requires a lot of study.

Yet here both salaries are pretty equal. If sparkies do FIFO or start their own business they can easily out earn engineers.
