DNA Numeroparkki in USA

I recently moved to USA from Finland and activated numeroparkki on my esim.

I assumed that the sim would work just fine in USA to get sms. Since I arrived, the sim hasn't connected to any local provider. I reached out to DNA customer service to ask if there's some block to the sim or if numeroparkki sim doesn't work in USA. The guy just told me contact the huolto email address.

Has anyone had experieces with a numeroparkki abroad? Is it supposed to connect and receive messages also outside of the EU? I have tried troubleshooting but it just won't connect.

Do barbers include sales tax in their prices?

I went for the first time to a barber in NYC and it charged me 40$ + I gave a tip. He asked me to check the price from the receipt to make sure it was correct, but there was no tax on the receipt. I didn't receive any receipt either. Can services include taxes in their prices, so it won't show as extra tax or what happened there? I know the state doesn't charge sales tax on barbers, but the city should. Or am I wrong?

Oura 4 iPhone 15 pro battery drain

I’m at my third Oura 4 because two of them had a faulty battery. I have used the latest for a few weeks now and in the latest days it drains way too much battery on my iPhone 15 Pro. I went to sleep with around 40% battery and after 8h the phone ran out of battery and turned off. Same this morning, it’s been using way too much battery. Has it been a known issue?

Help brainstorming job opportunities

Hello, I am soon moving to NYC from EU as a spouse of a diplomat and I will get a work authorization. I worked for the past seven years (apart a couple of years in CS/IT support, my recent experience is in tech recruitment and career counselling/coaching - over 4 years in total). I speak English, Italian, Spanish + intermediate level of two nordic languages.

I have gone through job ads for jobs related to recruitment and job coaches/advisors, but I thought to check here as well what's your view on the availability of these jobs/competition level for someone coming from outside the USA.

Also, are there jobs that exist in NYC that are peculiar to USA in these fields? Ideally, I'd like to work part-time, but I haven't found many part-time opportunities in the field.

Any opinion is welcome!

[N/A] Is Revolut a good option for move EU --> USA?

Hello everyone!

I live in EU and I am soon about to move to USA for 3-4 years. In my country I have a bank account where I manage daily finances and this will stay active. They charge 2.5% as exchange fees abroad, so I am looking for an alternative.

My current thinking has been the following:

- I receive a monthly income to my local bank account
- I open a Revolut account and transfer the money there every month for expenses in USA
- I convert the money to USD and use the card abroad
- I might withdraw some cash in case of tipping or stores that don't accept cards

In the future, I might start freelancing in USA and I was thinking about opening a Wise Business / Revolut pro account once there.

I have always used traditional banks, so now I am wondering whether Revolut is the best option for this (I was comparing it to Wise, but it seems they are more or less similar for what I need).

My current thinking has been the following:

- I receive a monthly income to my local bank account
- I open a Wise account and transfer the money there every month for expenses in USA (for free with a SEPA transfer)
- I convert the money to USD and use the card abroad (to my understanding Wise has a small fee on this).
- I might withdraw some cash in case of tipping or stores that don't accept cards

In the future, I might start freelancing in USA and I was thinking about opening a Wise Business account once there.

Advice on having a sole proprietor business mainly with clients in EU

Hello, not sure if this is the right channel, but please direct me somewhere else if there's a more suitable one.

I am an EU citizen and I will move to the USA soon for the next 3-4 years on a G visa and work authorization.

I work as a career coach where my focus has been international clients in the EU country where I live. I was planning to set up a sole proprietor company here before moving, but it might make things complicated in the long term, when it comes to insurance/pension if I stay over 1 year in the US.

I was then wondering whether establishing a sole proprietor company in the USA would be easier, as I would pay taxes and social security contributions to the States.

Has anyone here had experiences with private clients from EU? Apart from GDPR matters, and charging VAT, what are other aspects to take into account?
