As a Sacred Symbols listener, not much in this article comes as a surprise. Colin has been beating this drum for years. I really want Xbox to come back, but this read is too optimistic in my opinion. Rebuilding when you’re THIS down should demonstrate some initial gains. The question is, can it be sustained for several years?

Although I’m not very religious, if at all, I do look to Islam for cultural enrichment and to keep a sense of community (which is in itself rooted in familiarity).

A few years ago, I stumbled into Meditations and really gravitated towards stoic philosophy. In a way, it helped me validate the person that I always was. I always had “stoic” sensibilities but I never found a set doctrine until a few years ago, which has continued to help me in my life journeys. And I also learned that perhaps I’m not as stoic as I had initially thought.

That said, and going back to my opening, have any of you that come from a religious background found a way to weave your religion and stoic philosophy together in your day to day lives?

Specific to Islam, has anyone found Islamic stoic philosophers? The only one I feel may fit the bill is Al Kindi.

Any cons of utilizing RSP instead of the standard weighted Boglehead methodology?

This is where I’m coming from: my tax-advantaged accounts (401k, HSA) are 100% in FXAIX, so I already have full cap-weighted S&P 500 exposure on the “foundation” side of my portfolio. My taxable brokerage is where it gets more interesting…roughly 80% is concentrated in individual mega-cap tech names (you can probably guess which ones), with the remaining 20% currently in RSP as a deliberate counterweight.

That’s the real reason I’m looking at RSP. Not as a replacement for capweighted indexing, but as a balance against my own concentrated growth positions. If I’m already heavy NVDA, AAPL, MSFT, AMZN and GOOG, the last thing I need is VOO doubling down on the same names.

The responses here were genuinely helpful. The point about RSP being an implicit large cap value tilt rather than a true diversifier is well taken. Which is actually what got me thinking about the RSP/AVUV split concept. RSP for the equal weight S&P exposure, AVUV for a more intentional small cap value factor tilt that’s academically grounded (at least per quick AI and Google research) and doesn’t have the weird M&A/stock-split quirks someone pointed out. Two rules-based, non active funds that together do something my megacap picks can’t.

Any feedback on Maercker District 60 in westmont/clarendon hills? We will possibly be moving from Naperville D204 to this district and I’m looking for feedback regarding the schools. This is a feeder district into hinsdale central which I know is a strong high school, I just can’t seem to find much info regarding the elementary (Holmes) and middle (Maercker, 4th and 5th grades). I did research the group and someone else commented on a previous post that they did not feel as prepared for the HS compared to other feeder districts. Location is better for us for work however we have genuinely been impressed with 204. There is a comfort factor too that makes me nervous about leaving. Any feedback is appreciated!

I’m in my late 40s and have a history with JRPGs from the early 90s. Family (multiple young kids), wife, elderly parents, and a full time professional job has kept me away from gaming for long stretches of time. But I want to visit some legacy JRPGs from my youth that I can sit down and play for 30 mins here and there on modern consoles. I saw
legend of dragoon on PSN’s subscription and dove in last week. First 20 mins gave me those old school vibes and I love I can save it pretty easily or just put the PS5 on rest mode.

Anyway, Im leaning towards continuing the journey but I am curious what other people think. Does it hold up? What would you compare it to? Anything I need to be mindful of?

Any other obscure recommendations from the past that is available on modern consoles?
