How do you stop forgetting where you put things around the house?

This sounds small, but it honestly wastes so much time in my day.

I keep forgetting where I put random important stuff around the house. Not things like keys or wallets, more like books I bought recently, tools, machine parts, warranty cards, cables, adapters, or things I specifically remember “putting somewhere safe.”

The annoying part is I know I have the item, but then 2 weeks later I have absolutely no idea where I stored it.

Sometimes I end up checking every drawer, cupboard, shelf, and bag in the house trying to find one thing. It gets even worse when someone else in the family moves it.

I’ve tried taking photos, using notes apps, and even telling myself I’ll remember where I kept it, but none of it really works long term.

Curious if other people deal with this too or if it’s just me 😅

What do you usually lose track of the most?

And have you found any system that actually works?

mass produced this app 1000 times in my head before actually building it

for like 2 years i kept thinking "i should make a credit card tracker app" and then immediately going "nah someones already done that"

and yeah they have. theres tons of them.

but then i missed a payment on a card i straight up forgot existed. $39 late fee. then the interest hit. i was juggling 4 cards and just lost track.

looked at whats out there. everything wanted me to connect my bank (hell no), had way too much going on, or looked like it was made 10 years ago.

so i just said screw it and started building. nights after work. weekends. mass googling stuff i didnt understand.

4 months later i actually shipped it. called it CardMate. dead simple - just tracks your cards, tells you when stuff is due, shows your spending. no bank connections.

25 downloads. $0 revenue. got absolutely roasted on r/iOSdev the other day lol (i asked for it). but idk man its out there. actual strangers are using something i made. thats still wild to me.

the distance between "i should build this" and actually building it is brutal. took me way too long to close that gap.

anyone else here ship something just to prove to yourself you actually could?

Would you use an app that turns your photos into a stamp collection?

Hey!

Working on an app idea and want to know if it's worth building.

Basically, it's a photo memory app where your pictures become vintage-style stamps. You add them to postcards, write little notes, tag the location, and organize everything into
collections like "Japan 2026" or "Baby's First Year." There's also a world map where you can see where all your memories are from.

Kind of like a digital scrapbook meets stamp collecting.

Thinking it'd be good for travelers, parents documenting kid stuff, or anyone who likes the idea of journaling with photos.

Few questions:

  1. Would you actually use something like this?
  2. What would make you pay for it instead of just using your camera roll?
  3. Is the stamp/postcard thing cool or kinda gimmicky?
  4. Any features that would make it a must-have?
  5. Would you pay once, subscribe, or only use it if free?

Be brutally honest - rather know now than waste months building something nobody wants.

Thanks!
