2012 Outback 230k miles

Yoh Reddit Subie Fam…

My wife bought a used, ‘12 OB back in ‘14. It now has 230K miles and we are considering giving it to our youngest, 16 YO son. Essentially a high school, beater car. Our older kids used it thru college & into their careers.

The car is in above average shape. I have EVERY service record for past (12) years & it has some rust here & there (oldest kid was in NE for career -heavy salt). Regular CVT, oil, diff & coolant swaps.

What should I expect for regular repairs if my 16 YO runs it for next 2-3 years? Is it common for this era of Outback’s to get up above 250-275K miles? What should I be looking out for in terms of wear & tear? Would appreciate any insight from those of you who have run these up above 250K miles. It’s the 2.5 NA 4 cylinder. TIA!

I26 & FBR Bridge -Project Rendering-per DoT Presentation

Yoh AVL Traffic fans!

I took screenshots out of a DoT YouTube video & placed the still images (above) so folks could better understand the scope of work for this project.

1st image: Viewing S/SE along FBR. West is to your right & East is to the left. Westgate shopping center & NBBrewing are center-right.

2nd Image (Hill Street): Hill Street area. This is East of existing bridge & shows new geometry in this zone. Upper right corner of graphic is East, to the left is north.

3rd Image (I26/Patton): This image is out in WAVL facing east. Big white roof (lower left) is Sams Club. Patton is primary road headed west town into your lower right corner.

Here is a good <link> to DoT page where additional graphics & a nice YouTube video can fill in additional details. Hope this is helpful, be safe out there!

Tundra Maintenance Chart Gen3…?

Does anyone know if there is a maintenance chart or graphic poster for the Gen3 Tundra, model year 2022(+)? I’m interested in finding one of these (similar to graphic above) if anyone has seen or created one of these. TIA.

V35A w/ 366K miles (590K kilometers)….LC300

I saw this pop up in the “Mileage Impossible” FB group today. Appears to be one of the higher, if not the highest mileage Toyota Twin Turbo V6 (V35A) engines I’ve seen.

The body seems suspiciously clean for nearly 370,000 miles, but it is possible after (4) years of service. If it’s exactly (4) years old, that’s about 1760 miles per week. Of course, this is the Japan built V35A as it’s in a Land Cruiser 300 series.

Bad CV or Hub Bearing?

This is my DIL’s car. 2014 Jeep Cherokee w/ 175K miles. I changed her oil, oil filter, air filter & did a drain & fill on her transmission today. I didn’t diagnose her CV. The hub bearing feels sturdy. She said it occasionally makes some noise (I couldn’t replicate it). How can I figure out if this is the CV going bad? Is this something I can DIY? Appreciate any help or insight. Thx!

2021 Subie Forester w/ 62K miles here.

The last (2) months or so the CVT was acting a little bit jerky & “lurchy.” When the car was cold, and you’d quickly accelerate up our 12-13% (steep) driveway, there would be a bit of a hesitation & then slightly jerky engagement. Def not silky smooth like it’s been the past 2-3 years.

We bought the car @ 28K miles and completed a drain & fill (~5 quarts) on the CVT @ 30K miles and again last week @ 62K miles. To my surprise, the CVT engagement & acceleration has now become much, MUCH smoother. I didn’t think swapping fluid at only 30K would make that much of a difference.

So yeah, a friendly reminder to swap your CVT fluid. Our location here is mountainous w/ stop-n-go driving & we get a full span of 90 degree summers & 0 degree winters. I don’t tow w/ the car.
