I mainly will use it for writing, and watching videos on YouTube and Netflix. USA, ideally less than $700.

I do a little bit of graphics work. But just making graphics for Facebook or Instagram posts. From Canva.

A small amount of video editing. I've just used IMovie for that and it works perfectly. I currently have a macbook air M1 2020 with 8 GB and it worked perfectly on all accounts.

I have an apple phone. It is nice to just airdrop pictures and videos in a matter of seconds. But I'm not married to buying another MacBook Air. But I do like them over windows.

90% of my usage is just writing stories, while listening to YouTube or Netflix. And making graphics for my social media pages. (here it is for context: https://www.facebook.com/hairmetalmusic/. AND a video I did on iMovie.

I'm looking for cost value here. I don't need much. Just want to write, listen to movies, and work on my social media pages. I went to BestBuy and the guy was trying very hard to get me to buy WAY more computer than I needed. "You'll never have memory or storage issues with this one" and I'm like "my friend, my current laptop has 8 GB and after four years it is only 1/2 full" but he said I needed at least 32 now.

(((something spilt on my keboard - I think - and now two letters/keys don't work. And, I apparently have the Kernal issue. Somebody told me my repair bill would be more than just buying a new lower end laptop))))

I went through google and tried ALL the suggested fixes for these two issues. Safe modes, updating, deleting things, etc. I've probably spent 10 hours going through every solution and suggestion.

1. All keys work except for "e" - is an Apple Magic BlueTooth keyboard cover the way to go? It is not under warranty, so it's all a cash payment for repair. Also, do I need the one from Apple which is $100-130 or can I get an off-brand one for $30ish. Not having a working "e" is a nightmare to try and type with lol. (I'm copying and pasting now when I need an "e")
2. Whenever my screen pauses, like I don't type for a minute and the screen starts to hybernate, I get a quick Pink screen and the laptop automatically shuts down and restarts. It also automatically shuts down if I try and upload the latest operating system. I believe it is the Kernal Panic. I stopped this from happening by shutting off the amount of time your laptop stays bright before the screen starts to pause. So now it doesn't automatically shut down and restart. That fixed the shutdown issue....but didn't fix the internal problem. The malfunction or problem is still inside the laptop. I fear it gets worse over time.
3. With both these issues I'm wondering if it is just time to buy a new laptop? Or Can I do an easy fix for the keyboard (every thing I've read says Apple or BestBuy is going to charge 4-500 to fix the keyboard as they won't replace one key and will instead replace the entire bottom unit, which sucks when it is just ONe key that isn't working) and then the tech can fix my Kernal issue or whatever is causing it to reboot???? If I have to pay $600-750 for these two repairs, might as well buy a new one at that point.
4. Sorry - last one. Should I go to an Apple store.....our Best Buy has a laptop repair section....or just some locally owned computer repair store. I apologize if that is a dumb question but I am not an expert in this area. (For context, I own a Subaru but don't take it to the Subaru dealership to have it fixed, I take it to an awesome repair shop we've used for a decade that does great work.) Is it different in the computer world?
