Software Hirings on Upwork and Advice on getting back into the market
I started freelancing when I was in college in 2023, I started with a profile on Upwork. I had projects and knowledge got one or two jobs that I essentially did for free, one of them turned into a long term gig (>2 years). Alongside this I also was working an internship where they had more or less handed the development of an MVP solely to me, I leveraged this and turned the internship into an hourly contract at a decent rate. I worked in Flutter (a lot of Flutter, often nitty gritty), React and Nextjs.
Now all of these contracts have ended and I made the mistake of not networking more during that time and pushing some work through Upwork to get more ratings. I also got caught up with my college and couldn't pay attention to finding more work last few months.
Now when I try to get back to Upwork, finding work seems much more difficult? So many open jobs that never hire? Is it just because I'm coming back after long? In general I feel a little lost and underconfident about finding good work again after this almost an year long break now. Could really use any advice from fellow freelancers. Thanks!
