i’m an aspiring puppeteer, and I just find this really special to me... especially Shake’s entrance. Mr. Snyder’s performances never fail to cheer me up when I feel like crap. From one puppet nerd to another, he will always be an inspiration to me. ❤️‍🩹

[OC] I drew my characters as Molly and Scratch! Any questions?

Whatcha the hybrid (16F, she/her/hers) and Simon the polar bear (68M, he/him/his)

they’re basically father & adopted daughter :D

Scratch Vlog #5: The Body! I also slightly redesigned the head (Last 2 images). Yet again, tips and advice are heavily appreciated!

(why does he look buff. WHY DOES HE LOOK BUFF?!!) sorry about that. anyways…

I still haven’t gathered up any materials yet, because I haven’t figured out what most of the parts should be made of. I know I’m gonna use reticulated foam for the head & face, but should I use the same type of foam for the chest, or use something more rigid?

What about the right arm & hands? I’m thinking about sewing the upper & lower parts together to make an ‘elbow’. Do I fill the arm up with plush material or give it a more rigid structure with foam?

The left hand is gonna hold onto my shoulder, and my hand will go through the upper sleeve into the head. The forearm is gonna rest on my back, but idk how to keep the illusion & hide my arm. Should I add support to the forearm, or leave it limp?

I have so many more questions, but I don’t think they can all fit into an entire description. I hope someone is willing to help, cuz I really need it. Thanks again😄

Hey, me again. I finally figured out Scratch’s head shape! But how should I go about making it? (Foams, mock-ups, templates, etc…)

I also updated the mechanism operation from my last post (thx, u/itsthedevilweknow!)

just wanted to share my progress, I’m really proud of myself so far!!

[OC] Hi. Doubt this’ll get any real attention at all, but I just wanted to share that I’m designing a Chairman Scratch puppet! (More details in description👻)

I already made a few posts like this before, but I just wanted to show some progress! I’m super excited for the final results :D

Images 1 & 2 are of the full design, plus a x-ray visualization of how I’ll control it. My right arm should go through the left sleeve and control his entire face, and my left arm should control Scratch’s right hand with a rod.

The last 3 images are a close-up of the blinking mech and the materials I think I‘ll use.

I’ll control the mouth with my thumb and the eyes with a pull string wrapped around my middle finger. the string is also attached to a knob that, when pulled forward, will move the eyelids downward. I also want to attach a tension spring onto the back of the eyelids to keep them from flip-flopping around when I’m not controlling them.

If you have any questions or tips, PLEASE let me know. This is my very first full-body puppet and I really need same advice. Thank you for coming to my TED talk :)

Hello! Right now, I'm in the design phase of making a puppet of Scratch from 'The Ghost and Molly McGee'. I have a few questions for anyone who's willing to listen.

1) I made 2 other posts about a blinking mech I want to add, but I don't know whether to control it with pull-strings or my own hand. I'm asking this cuz Scratch's mouth changes position constantly, and his eyes are pretty small compared to his mouth. Which method should I use to keep his puppet design consistent with his animated form?

2) Last night, I had a random thought about making him a live-hand puppet (like Ernie or Cookie Monster), which is usually controlled by two people. I still want to be the only person controlling the entire puppet. In my design, his mouth & eyes will be controlled by my right hand, while his right hand is controlled by my left. His left hand should be resting on my shoulder, motionless. Is there any way to do make a one-person live-hand puppet? if not, I could always use a rod. i'm perfectly fine with that too.

that's about it. I'm really passionate about this build, and I want it to look as convincing as possible! oh, and I'm using the video above as a reference

[OC] Two concepts I came up with recently. Thoughts & tips are GREATLY appreciated!! More info in the description👇👇

I’ve been toying around with a cosplay that incorporates puppetry (a special interest of mine), and these are my two favorites.

Puppet 1: I took heavy inspo from this clip when designing Chairman Scratch, and I’m very excited about this one!! I’d control the face with my right hand and his hand with a rod. I also wanna add a blinking mech, but considering that his face is as flat as a pug’s, idk how it’ll look. I’m very invested in this concept and might make it…. as long as I actually learn how to make fabric puppets 😅 really need tips for the blinking mech

Puppet 2: For Pebble, I‘d control the entire mechanism with my left hand, including a *possible* blinking mechanism. Even though I drew a back view and a fake arm, I don’t really know how I’d hide the rest of my arm subtly. Also, Dandy’s world isn’t a fandom I’m too invested in, but I like my idea too much to completely scrap it

Cosplay/puppet concept I came up with today! Thoughts? (2nd image mostly unrelated)

I’ve been toying around with the idea of a Scratch cosplay for a few weeks, and so far this is the least awkward-looking one yet. I’d be controlling Scratch‘s face with my right hand, and his arm with a rod held in my left hand.

If I do end up making this, this will be the first time I make a full-body puppet (or any kind of fabric puppet, for that matter.) I also wanna add a blinking mech to the face, too. Considering Scratch’s face is as flat as a pug’s, I have no idea what that’ll look like.

any tips are HEAVILY appreciated!!
