Even a calf instinctively chooses milk, so why do some people in North Indian states promote eating cow dung and drinking cow urine?
What surprises me is how much the social and political atmosphere seems to have changed since 2014 in India. I don’t remember seeing this level of openly expressed religious fanaticism and polarization among Hindus before then, especially in parts of the Hindi-belt and some BJP-ruled states.
Of course, I’m not saying this represents all Hindus, North Indians. I’m talking about a particular section of people whose views and behaviour appear to have become much more extreme and visible over the past decade.
In my view, the political climate, constant religious polarization, and the normalization of extreme rhetoric have played a major role in this shift. Things that might once have been treated as fringe beliefs now sometimes seem to receive public attention, political validation, or even encouragement.
That’s the reason behind my observation. I’m open to disagreement and discussion—I just hope the post isn’t removed simply because the opinion is uncomfortable or critical.
