I Tried to Make the Best Smash Bros. Roster Ever

I tried to put together what I think would be the best possible roster for Smash Bros. What do you guys think?

Gameplay ideas

I also tried to give every character a different playstyle based on their games. Nothing too specific, just the general idea I had in mind:

Mario — A classic all-rounder with good combos, fireballs and strong aerials.

Luigi — A floaty combo character with powerful grabs and surprisingly strong kill power.

Peach — A floaty fighter focused on aerial movement, turnips and creative combos.

Bowser — A heavyweight grappler with huge damage, armor and strong kill power.

Wario — A tricky rushdown character who can build up Waft for a powerful finisher.

Yoshi — A very mobile aerial fighter with strong air attacks, eggs and double-jump armor.

Donkey Kong — A heavyweight grappler focused on powerful grabs, armor and hard-hitting attacks.

Diddy Kong — A fast rushdown/trapper who uses his banana and peanut gun to set up combos.

Link — A swordfighter/zoning hybrid who uses his bombs, boomerang and arrows to control space.

Zelda — A magic-based zoner who relies on projectiles, traps and strong burst attacks.

Ganondorf — A slow but extremely powerful fighter who relies on hard reads and devastating attacks.

Samus — A projectile-heavy zoner who controls space with missiles, bombs and her Charge Shot.

Kirby — A small and flexible fighter with strong aerials and the ability to copy opponents' abilities.

Fox — A very fast rushdown character with great mobility and strong close-range combos.

Pikachu — A tiny and extremely mobile fighter with great combos, edgeguarding and recovery.

Ness — A floaty fighter who mixes strong aerials with PK Fire and other PSI attacks.

Captain Falcon — A fast rushdown character built around explosive combos, reads and powerful finishers.

Marth — A precise swordfighter who rewards good spacing, especially with the tip of his sword.

Pit — A well-rounded fighter with a mix of sword attacks, projectiles and great recovery.

Snake — A trap-heavy zoner who uses grenades, explosives and setups to control the stage.

Sonic — A hit-and-run rushdown character who uses his incredible speed to overwhelm opponents.

Tails — A technical zoner who uses his gadgets, inventions and flight to control the stage.

Eggman — A trap/zoning character who mainly fights through his machines and various inventions.

Olimar — A unique fighter who uses different Pikmin for different attacks and situations.

Villager — A trap-focused zoner who uses projectiles, trees, pocket and stage control.

Mega Man — A projectile-heavy fighter who constantly switches between different weapons.

Little Mac — An extremely powerful ground-based fighter with fast punches, but a weak aerial game.

Mii Fighter — A highly customizable fighter whose moveset can be built around different playstyles.

Pac-Man — A technical trapper who uses fruits, hydrants and other arcade-inspired tools to create setups.

Ryu — A traditional fighting-game character focused on footsies, combos and precise inputs.

Cloud — A swordfighter with great range who can charge Limit to make his attacks even stronger.

Inkling — A fast rushdown/trapper who uses ink to weaken opponents and power up their attacks.

Simon — A long-range fighter who uses his whip, axes, crosses and holy water to control space.

Joker — A fast and technical fighter who becomes much stronger when Arsène comes out.

Hero — A versatile fighter who uses a huge variety of spells to adapt to different situations.

Banjo & Kazooie — A versatile duo with projectiles, strong recovery and Wonderwing for explosive attacks.

Steve — A very technical fighter who gathers resources and builds blocks to control the stage.

Kazuya — A devastating close-range fighter with insane combos and extremely high damage.

Sora — A floaty aerial fighter who combines his Keyblade with magic and long-lasting combos.

Crash Bandicoot — A chaotic rushdown character using his spin, slide, gadgets and power-ups.

Spyro — A mobile fighter who mixes his charge, fire breath and magic with strong aerial movement.

Rayman — A very mobile fighter with long-range punches and kicks thanks to his unique limbs.

Lara Croft — A weapon-based fighter who mixes her guns, bow, climbing gear and traps.

Master Chief — A methodical zoner who uses Halo's weapons, grenades and equipment to control space.

Batman villains vs Spider-Man villains — who would make the best matchups?

Batman villains vs Spider-Man villains — who would make the best matchups?

I've been working on a little project where I try to match up some of Batman's biggest villains with Spider-Man's biggest villains in 1v1 fights.

The goal isn't necessarily to match them based on powers or who would win in a fight. Instead, I'm trying to find the closest counterpart based on a combination of physical appearance, personality, powers, status, role in their respective rogues' galleries, importance to the hero, and sometimes even similarities between their different adaptations.

After a lot of experimenting, here's the current list:

  • Joker vs Green Goblin
  • Clayface vs Sandman
  • Killer Croc vs Lizard
  • Penguin vs Kingpin
  • Two-Face vs Mister Negative
  • Catwoman vs Black Cat
  • Riddler vs Mysterio
  • Man-Bat vs Morlun/Morbius
  • Bane vs Rhino
  • Firefly vs Vulture
  • Hush vs Chameleon
  • Kraven vs Ra's al Ghul
  • Black Mask vs Hammerhead
  • Hugo Strange vs Jackal
  • Solomon Grundy vs Tombstone
  • Poison Ivy vs Venom
  • Harley Quinn vs Hobgoblin
  • Mr. Freeze vs Doctor Octopus
  • Scarecrow vs Scorpion
  • Deathstroke vs Shocker

Some of these matchups feel very obvious to me, while others are much more debatable. In particular, I'm not completely convinced by some of the last few pairings, and I'm sure there are better alternatives I haven't thought of.

For example, I tried to avoid simply matching characters based on their powers. Poison Ivy vs Venom is partly based on their roles in the Arkham and Marvel's Spider-Man games, where both can dramatically alter the environment around them. Other matchups are based more on their personalities or narrative roles, such as Hugo Strange vs Jackal.

Which matchups do you think work really well? Which ones make absolutely no sense? And are there any Batman or Spider-Man villains you think I should replace or swap around?

Feel free to suggest completely different matchups — I'm especially interested in fixing the ones you're least convinced by. I'm trying to make the overall list as coherent as possible rather than simply finding 23 fights and calling it a day.
