Flashback episode?

I’ve seen a lot of talk about the lack of “filler episodes”- how older teen shows such as OTH, the OC, gossip girl, etc all had filler episodes where we get to know the characters.

I completely agree, and I wish we got a flashback episode with Steven/Joe/Goldie/Gordon! I would loved to see all their dynamics in real time and I think it would’ve helped to understand Goldie’s headspace, helped us understand her relationships with Joe and Steven, and just really see the thought process behind her decisions.

I’m hoping it will come in later seasons, but I think this season it would’ve fit perfectly.

GPR Application PS mistake

Hi all! Submitted my application for GPR tonight and immediately after I submitted (after proofreading 10x) I noticed a mistake on my personal statement.

In the last paragraph, The second to last line is repeated twice:

I am seeking a General Practice Residency to continue developing these skills in a more medically complex setting, where I can contribute to a team and continue growing as a clinician.

followed immediately by:

I am seeking a General Practice Residency to continue developing these skills in a more medically complex setting, where I can contribute to a collaborative team and continue growing as a clinician. The second time it’s repeated it’s in a different font.

It must have been left there from my first draft and I just glazed over the repetition when proofreading.

Reached out to ADEA pass who said the best thing to do is reach out to each program with an updated statement. Everyone I speak to seems to have different advice.

So, do I:

  1. Do nothing and hope for the best

  2. Reach out to each program coordinator with an updated statement politely explaining the mistake?

I am nervous this will draw attention to it and make it a bigger deal.

Thank you

TLDR; made a mistake on PS for GPR apps, wondering if emailing an updated version will draw too much attention to a trivial error

48 HR brew refrigerated

Left my cold brew (coarse grounds + chicory) steeping for abt 48 hours accidentally- refrigerated for entire duration.

Will it be undrinkable? Any tips for how to fix the bitterness?

Possible occupational exposure

Not sure if this is the right space for this. But I’m in dental school. Used a scissor to cut a dental material that was in the patients mouth that was covered in blood and saliva. Later on in the appt cut myself w the scissor- made a tiny incision through the glove and made a very superficial puncture in the skin. Cannot remember if I bled or not but if I did it was very minimally. Washed my hands and changed my gloves but did not think much of it because was in such a rush.

Later on I went to my clinic director who called her supervisor and they both agreed I was fine and should move on. Esp The pt. Had denied ever having HIV.

This didn’t sit right with me after doing my own research so I went to the in house health clinic the next morning (24h later) and spoke to the physician who was very concerned and told me I definitely should’ve come the day before.

We cannot get in touch w the source pt for testing as they are ignoring all calls and texts.

She recommended I start PEP even thought her and the infectious disease specialist agree the risk is so so so low, esp bc it wasn’t a needle and the puncture was very superficial. She recommended to take PEP at least until we can get in touch w the source pt and test them. She said if I decline pep I have to sign a form stating I understand the risks.

My faculty (dentist) thinks this is overkill and said if it was her she wouldn’t take the medicine . I am not sure what to do or who to trust. I am terrified of side effects . I took the first dose today about 30h post exposure but am very nervous this is stupid overkill because I am in a school setting and they have to follow protocol.

Indoor Day

Off from work tomorrow and would love a low budget indoor itinerary to stay out of this heat! I love thrifting, fashion, art/culture cute cafes… even if it’s just an area of the city to explore + good coffee, I would appreciate any cheaper suggestions that will keep me cool in this dreadful weather ! This BWT needs a good NYC day for her soul to recharge !!!!!

So much I’m going to miss

Excuse the emotional and most probably duplicate post!

Obviously everyone cannot stop talking about the sense of community and collective joy, the unity we feel in New York, and just this beautiful sense of belonging and togetherness. I’m going to miss all of that SO MUCH.

But in addition to that, I’m going to miss the growth and closeness this brought to my own individual relationships- texting nonstop with my dad and brother, who I don’t always speak to as much as I’d like. Calling each of them before and after each game to debrief. Having plans after work with my roommate, sending memes and tweets to my friends across the country who no longer live here. This team gave me a chance to take a step back from day to day life and connect with those who matter most to me!

A championship was more than we could ever ask for, but I’m so grateful to this team for bringing so much closeness and joy into individual relationships also!

Would love to hear anyone else’s own versions of this too!

I need another Empire of Pain.

I am very new to this sub so if I am doing this wrong please bear with me. I read Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe 2 years ago and I have never moved on from it. It completely changed my life- it is absolutely my favorite nonfiction of all time and definitely top 5 books of all time. It send me down a very long rabbit hole about the opioid crisis - and then into an even longer goose chase trying to find a book that would even come close to this one.

The frustrating part is that I’ve already tried many of the usual recommendations (Bad Blood, The Big Short, Dopesick, Painkiller, Smartest Guys in the Room, Wizard of Lies, etc.) and none of them gave me the same feeling.

What I loved wasn’t just that it was about corporate greed or fraud. It was the combination of:

* Corporate lies and deception

* Powerful people protecting their reputations

* A wealthy family dynasty

* Generational ambition and obsession with status

* Executives convincing themselves they’re the good guys

* The way the consequences unfolded over decades

* Deep psychological insight into the people involved

* Beautiful, literary writing and reporting

* The feeling of being simultaneously fascinated and horrified

I especially loved how the Sacklers weren’t written as cartoon villains. They were intelligent, cultured, complicated people whose self-image seemed completely disconnected from the damage they caused.

I’m looking for nonfiction, preferably investigative journalism, history, business, medicine, finance, or anything adjacent. I don’t necessarily need another pharmaceutical story, but I do want the same feeling of uncovering a massive web of power, money, image management, and lies.

What’s the closest you’ve come to the Empire of Pain experience? Am I just going to have accept that it’s 1 of 1?

My favorite day in a long time

Been going thru some tough stuff lately and this team just really has been carrying me thru. I smiled/waved/cheered at Every single person I passed in the city today wearing any sort of Knicks merch- kept wondering how many of them were some of u on here!!!!! Felt like we were all in something together- Our hearts all beat for the Knicks and it’s hard to describe that to anyone else.

Sorry to get so mushy but I have nowhere else to describe what this team means to me lol.
