I cut a WD SN520 2280 to 2242 size and killed it.

Long story short, I followed this guide to cut an SN520 to 2242 size (to install it in the WWAN slot of my T14 Gen 1 AMD) and it doesn't work properly anymore

It is recognized by the laptop and I can install an OS on it, but it stays constantly at 100% usage and only drops for a few moments once every 10 seconds or so. The system is completely frozen whenever it is at 100%, and when it drops all the operations I requested while it was frozen are executed. The same behavior happens in Windows 10 / 11 and Linux

If I boot from the main SSD and use the SN520 as a data drive it behaves in the same way, except the system doesn't freeze since it's running on a working drive

I tried pretty much everything without results, so I'm quite sure I can declare its death. I also tried to isolate the cut side with nail paint and tape

My hypothesis is that the lack of grounding on the mounting screw causes the issues, and if I use the SSD adapter in picture it works correctly because grounding is provided by the USB-C connector
