Has anyone else found success in lying to yourself?
I've had misophonia since I was around 7 and spent much of my life just suffering through it. But over the past few months I've found great success in just forcing myself to believe that I'm not bothered by my triggers and that maybe I can enjoy them.
For the first time in my life I've been able to eat with friends and family without crying or have growing resentment towards them. Obviously, I'm not cured, when I'm not prepared sounds still bother me, but with a little bit of time to change my mindset and prepare before these types of interactions I can tolerate them with little to no discomfort for a decent amount of time. Usually enough time for the interaction to have ended.
I'd love to hear if there is any science/research about this or if anyone else has experienced something similar!
