Trump confirms that he called FIFA about Balogun’s red card: “[The referee] made a call that nobody could believe ... he's our best player, or one of our best players. And he gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant ... yes, I asked for a review by FIFA."

Telemundo Nebraska cut to local news right before the Netherlands-Morocco penalty shootout. Forcing me to have commit the ultimate sin: Watch the World Cup in English.

Clearly a first world problem, but I need to vent.

What the hell Telemundo Nebraska?

The local news started at 10:45pm on the dot, which tells me that someone programmed it, but no one was at the studio to correct the mistake.

At least I speak English and had Fox. I feel bad for any Telemundo Nebraska viewers that missed out on that entertaining shootout due to that awful mishap.

[ESPN] Giannis traded to Heat: Grades, reaction, Bucks’ next steps

To summarize the article:
Miami Heat - B-
Milwaukee Bucks - B+

Winners: Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Taylor Jenkins, Miami Heat, Portland Trailblazers

Losers: Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Myles Turner, New York Knicks

Personally I think this is a little too pro-Miami. There is no guarantee that they make the moves to contend, but ESPN is assuming they will “because Pat Riley”.

Also there is no way the Knicks even care right now. I will say that the Trialblazers aspect is on point though; those assets are worth a lot more.

Merger Posts Going Foward

Hey all,

We have seen a bit of a rise in merger posts on the sub and we just want to clarify some things.

As we have said from the jump, this is not going to be us slowly turning this subreddit into a merge subreddit. This sub was designed to be something different than that.

With the rise in merger posts, I want to remind you guys of a few things:

- If we feel that too many merger posts are being made, we will start deleting some posts. If it’s fan edits/art, we may just ask you to retitle the post without merger terms.
- Remember that the weekly ‘Mergers Anonymous’ thread is designed for continual merger discussion.
- For fan art and edits involving the two, try to keep any merger related terms out of the title. This will ensure that the post is not removed.
- Comments won’t be deleted if they stray into the merger topic, but rude and disrespectful comments always will be. Just ensure that you are respectful and considerate of other opinions.

To end on a more positive note, we will be making discussion threads for DCU releases going forward. This means that we will be making a discussion thread for Supergirl when it releases next week. We look forward to celebrating and discussing that release with you all!

Let us know if you have any questions or suggestions as we continue to try and build a special community for you all. Thanks!

Just a weird coincidence? On the 10 year anniversary, this year’s Finals schedule for Games 5-7 perfectly lines up with the 2016 Final’s Game 5-7 schedule.

Almost 10 years ago, Lebron James and Kyrie Irving led the stunning 3-1 comeback against the 73-9 Warriors.

Today is the 10th anniversary of Game 5 when that comeback started.

Coincidentally, tonight is also Game 5 of the 2026 Finals as well. That made me curious about it whether it was just Game 5 that lined up. After I looked into it, I realized that it’s not just tonight that lines up with the 2016 Finals.

Games 5, 6, and 7 of this series would all happen on the 10th anniversary of their 2016 counterparts:
- 2016 Game 5: June 13, 2016; 2026 Game 5: June 13, 2026
- 2016 Game 6: June 16, 2016; 2026 Game 6: June 16, 2026
- 2016 Game 7: June 19, 2016; 2026 Game 7: June 19, 2026

By no means am I trying to get on Knicks fans’ bad side. The one thing these series don’t have in common: the Cavs did not blow a 29 point lead in Game 4. I think it’s likely that the Knicks still win this series; however, I think it’s just an interesting connection to point out.

No live-action Star Wars movie has been outside the domestic top 5 in its third weekend. Is Mandalorian and Grogu about to do what was once unthinkable?

Next weekend, we have a trio of new films that can potentially open above Mando and Grogu’s third weekend (Masters of the Universe, Scary Movie, and the theatrical Digital Circus finale). I also imagine that Obsession and Backrooms will stay in the top 5. Mando and Grogu is also losing all its premium format screens. Meaning that we have the very real possibility of a Star Wars movie that is outside the domestic top 5 in its third weekend.

That would extremely unprecedented. The only case where that happened was with the collapse of the animated Clone Wars movie.

- Star Wars: The Clone Wars (theatrical pilot) - Week 1 (Opened #3, $14.6 million), Week 2 (#5, $5.7 million), Week 3 (#12, $2.7 million)

The title to this post is underselling it a bit. No live action Star Wars movie has been under #3 in its third domestic weekend. That is almost certain to happen with Mando and Grogu.

Here are the weekend 3 numbers for every Star Wars movie arranged by final domestic total of initial release (Numbers taken from Box Office Mojo):

  1. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens - Stayed #1 with $90.2 million
  2. Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi - Stayed #1 with $52.5 million
  3. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Stayed #1 with $49.6 million
  4. Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - Stayed #1 with $34.5 million
  5. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace - Stayed #1 with $32.9 million
  6. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - Dropped to #3 with $25.1 million
  7. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope - Regained #1 with $4.9 million (dropped to #3 in weekend 2)
  8. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones - Dropped to #2 with $21.0 million
  9. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi - Stayed #1 with $11.99 million
  10. Solo: A Star Wars Story - Dropped to #2 with $15.7 million
  11. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back - Dropped to #3 with $3.6 million

I think the bigger question is if Mando and Grogu can avoid falling below $15.7 million to become the lowest grossing third domestic weekend for a Disney era movie.

I throw it to you all. Will Mandalorian and Grogu be able to stay in the top 5 next weekend? Will it somehow avoid falling outside the top 3?

[ESPN] Sources: Spurs’ Harper (adductor) a game-time decision vs. Thunder

Spurs guard Dylan Harper will be a game-time decision Friday for Game 3 of the Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Harper underwent an MRI on Thursday afternoon, and the results revealed a right adductor injury, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The rookie is expected to go through his pregame routine before the club decides on his status. Harper is listed officially as questionable for Game 3 along with veteran guard De'Aaron Fox(right ankle). If both guards can make their return, it would greatly benefit a Spurs team that finds itself thin in the backcourt.
