Frozen - What If the Duke of Weselton Was the Main Villain?

- This is a what if story where the Duke of Weselton was the main villain of Frozen instead of Hans.
- In this version, Hans is rewritten to be a genuinely noble, but quirky, ally of Anna and Elsa.
- The beginning of the movie plays out exactly like normal up until the "Love Is an Open Door" sequence, which is now rewritten as the start of a long-lasting platonic friendship between Anna and Hans.
- After Anna and Hans return to the ballroom, Elsa is far more accepting of Hans to the point where the trio engage in a heartfelt conversation, laughing along the way. Elsa finds genuine happiness for the first time in years.
- Elsa thanks Anna for lifting her spirits, and the two sisters hug it out.
- With Elsa's guard lowered, the Duke of Weselton makes his move. He approaches Elsa in his usual flamboyant and comedic style, but his motives hide a much darker presence.
- The Duke invades Elsa's personal space as he continuously asks questions about Arendelle's isolationist ideology. Elsa price her best for me compose, but the cracks are starting to show.
- Seeing their peer in distress, Anna and Hans defend Elsa and provide the Duke with a distraction to keep him away.
- Anna and Hans try their absolute best to comfort Elsa, but the damage is done. This leads to the argument between the two sisters where Elsa unintentionally reveals her ice powers, exactly like how it played out in the original movie. (https://youtu.be/bv9HZ\_cRgMs?feature=shared)
- "Let It Go" is now a formal declaration of independence from the Duke's influence on Arendelle, while also keeping its original intention of Elsa finally finding freedom and using her ice powers to their fullest extent.
- The rest of the movie plays out exactly like it did in the original movie, with Anna meeting Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf along her journey up until the scene shifts back to Arendelle.
- Hans is distributing aid to the people of Arendelle, much to the Duke's dismay. He accuses Hans by shouting baseless conspiracy theories while Hans maintains a clear head.
- When Hans says, "Do not question the Princess. She left me in charge, and I will not hesitate to protect Arendelle from treason," the Duke's worldview starts to shatter as the first signs of his villainous spiral start to manifest. The denizens even murmur against him behind his back.
- The Duke calls everyone traitors as he and his forces initiate a raid on the Ice Palace.
- At the Ice Palace, the encounter and "For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)" sequence goes normally up until Elsa's "I CAN'T!" shout that strikes Anna's heart. Unlike the original, where Elsa was shocked at first before reverting back to her cold persona, this specific event triggers genuine PTSD.
- Mirroring the exact incident that occurred when they were children, Elsa kneels beside Anna in tears as she even goes as far as shouting, "MAMA! PAPA!" This showcases a total regression for Elsa as she's still the traumatized 8-year-old girl from before.
- Kristoff rushes in to see the event as the teary-eyed Elsa tells him it was an accident. Kristoff can see the genuine grief in her eyes.
- Elsa still creates Marshmallow, keeping his exact same role, except Elsa did so to protect Anna from her deteriorating mental state.
- Anna and her group meet up with the Trolls like normal up until the "Fixer Upper" sequence ends. Grand Pabbie informs them that Elsa's mind is "clouded by an internal blizzard of her making" and that "armored men with silver tongues" are approaching her palace, causing Anna to break down crying in Kristoff's arms as she feels her sister is truly gone.
- The quartet take off back to Arendelle as it's now a race against time to prevent the kingdom from succumbing to the Duke's looming military coup accompanied by Anna's frozen heart.
- The Duke's forces raid the Ice Palace, brutally taking down Marshmallow with military efficiency before reaching Elsa herself.
- Elsa desperately pleads for the army to leave her alone, but they won't listen due to their brutality.
- Decades of "conceal, don't feel" trauma, including the recent strike on Anna's heart, culminate into a primal shriek from Elsa. Her rage causes a blizzard so powerful that it shreds every corner of the Ice Palace, which now takes on a deep crimson color.
- After her rage subsides and the blizzard ceases, the men's frightened whimpering causes Elsa to finally snap out of it. She looks at the men and and her hands, absolutely petrified at herself over what she has become.
- Elsa accepts her face as she is arrested by the Duke's forces.
- Elsa is now back in Arendelle, locked up in the dungeon like normal, but now a hollow shell of her former self. Hans comes in, his look actually showing genuine worry.
- When Hans reaches closer and comforts her, Elsa undergoes a full-blown emotional meltdown as she unloads decades of trauma into pure, guttural catharsis.
- Elsa confesses in-between her primal sobs every sin she has committed throughout her life, wailing that she is a danger to everything and everyone around her, including her own sister.
- Hans fully relates to Elsa, giving her a motivational speech of how he shares his similar struggles back in the Southern Isles as the youngest of 13 brothers.
- A wholly new musical number called "A New Dawn" is sung as a duet by Elsa and Hans. The song showcases a flashback of Elsa's memories, both the good and the bad.
- "A New Dawn" is a song about accepting yourself and moving forward towards the future.
- During “A New Dawn,” flashbacks are shown where Elsa actually tries different calming techniques to better control her powers, only growing more motivated after her parents died.
- The song ends when Elsa, finally at peace with herself, closes her eyes and breathes calmy as she not only fully controls her ice powers, but completely masters them.
- Elsa shares a heartfelt hug with Hans before walking out of the dungeon with her confidence fully restored. She turns to Hans and gives him the final request to take care of Anna for her.
- Speaking of Anna, she is now by the fireplace as her infection grows worse by the second. This is supposed to be the scene where Hans turns on Anna and reveals his true nature.
- The Duke of Weselton, along with his two guards Erik and Francis, enter the room instead. He simply grabs a pitcher of water to put out the fire.
- In his now unhinged flamboyant style, the Duke announces his true end goal: to annex Arendelle and its resources in hopes of turning it into a puppet state, making Weselton the most powerful country in the world.
- Anna is enraged by this, calling the Duke a "pompous rat" and exclaiming he is no match for Elsa. The Duke simply leaves her to die, leading to Anna being rescued by Olaf like normal, but now with the addition of Hans.
- The Duke and his forces are out in the fjord during the blizzard, where she shouts his manifesto into the wind.
- The blizzard suddenly hangs in stillness, where the Duke notices a silhouette walking towards him.
- Elsa is seen, taking on a new regalia that harmonizes both her Snow Queen and Arendelle heritage, draped by a flowing half skirt with Arendelle patterns forged by ice. She lets her hair down and dons a transparent cape that resembles a comet's tail.
- Elsa even pulsates an aura that resembles the aurora borealis. When she walks, the ground below her crystallizes into colorful, regal ice.
- After a war of words with the Duke, Elsa unleashes her full potential on the Duke's forces, showcasing a brilliant display of her absolute mastery. She displays the power of a glacier, the speed of a blizzard, and the calm of the aurora borealis.
- When Elsa unleashes her ice powers, her aim provides accuracy so terrifying it feels like absolute zero.
- Anna, having been rescued by Olaf and Hans, watch the spectacle from far away. Anna even questions if the person fighting the Duke's forces is really Elsa.
- Kristoff and Sven, navigating the fjord, are also awestruck at Elsa's new appearance.
- The Duke, having lost his support, army, and now his dignity, completely descends into his absolute nadir, his ramblings and conspiracy theories now showing murderous intent.
- As the Duke charges towards Elsa with his sword, the scene with Anna sacrificing herself to save Elsa plays out exactly as it did in the original movie.
- Elsa grieves for her sister like normal, but her newly mastered state allows Anna to be thawed out almost instantly. The sisters share an emotional reunion, and Anna geeks out over Elsa's new appearance.
- The restoration of Arendelle occurs much quicker than normal due to Elsa's mastery.
- The Duke does one more pathetic attempt at demonizing the sisters, leading to Anna saying her iconic line, "The only frozen heart around here is yours."
- Like what she did with Hans originally, Anna pretends to walk away before grabbing the Duke and delivering a powerful right hook to his face, sending him plummeting to the water. Hans cringes at this, knowing what happens if he ever got on Anna's bad side.
- The Duke of Weselton is exiled from Arendelle, now charged with treason, war crimes, and attempted regicide.
- Elsa is now a more proactive and empathetic queen due to conquering her trauma and forging it into strength.
- The ending of the movie plays out exactly like normal: Anna gives Kristoff a new sled, they share a romantic kiss, and the whole kingdom ice skating.
- As for Frozen II, Elsa transcends into an actual deity during the "Show Yourself" sequence, regaining her regalia from the fjord battle. However, the outfit takes on a more divine and even ethereal state.
- The four sprits (the Nokk, Gale, Earth Giants, and Bruni) have their bond strengthened by the now goddess Elsa.
- Thanks to her newly acquired godhood, Elsa never freezes in Ahtohallan and stops the flood much quicker, being treated as a celestial event.
- Other than these changes, Frozen II plays out exactly how it did originally, with Anna and Kristoff getting married, Anna becoming queen of Arendelle, and Kristoff acting as her consort.
- Like the original Frozen II ending, Anna and Kristoff write letter to Elsa, who now resides in the Enchanted Forest as the Goddess of the North.
