What tips would you give someone who's starting fairly fresh in the industry?

Today, I'm having some stress regarding the state of the film industry in LA, and what to do as someone who's new to town as of about 9 months ago.

Right now, I'm a student at UCLA's Extension program, specifically in the Producing program and it's been a great experience so far. I'm an intern at a very small social media documentary company as a research and development assistant and it's been really nice so far, but it's remote and unpaid, making it easy to feel a bit isolated. I've been there for about 5 months now, and I'm starting to get the feeling I need to move to something a bit more concrete or at least something that progresses me a bit more. I really want to continue my time in LA, so I wanted to hear anyone's thoughts on the industry right now or any tips you may have for someone who's fairly new. (Where to look for opportunities, cold emailing, connections, etc...)
