I've been drifting for the past year and a half, and I've hit a crisis. My E36 325i is the perfect chassis, my baby, I've invested lots of time and money into her, she's got everything I need except the most important part: the engine. The OEM M50 is giving out, 2 bad cylinders (no compression) and she's weaker than ever, especially since the last time I took her out to the track, and I'd need to tear the engine apart, get it machined and put it back together, which equals to labor and money being spent, around 10k BRL at least (with forged internals already to handle a tad bit of boost). in the end, to make it a competitve drift car (I'll be running the statewide drift championship next year), would require me to put around 100k+ into her, even though she's my passion, I'm not sure I could afford that
But, an opportunity has showed up recently, a 350Z Single turbo, 150k BRL (but the thing is, I'd make a down payment of 50k and the rest would be split into 5/10k payments. IMPORTANT THING TO NOTICE, I AM NOT FINANCING IT, IT'S HOW WE DO IT HERE IN BRAZIL, WE EITHER PAY FULL PRICE UPFRONT OR SPLIT INTO PAYMENTS, WITHOUT THE BANK INTERFERING, THAT MEANS NO INTEREST, IT'S HOW I BOUGHT MY E36). My car is worth 100k, but to sell it quickly, I could do 80k and take the rest upon the Z, or somehow get a loan for the 50k (Only in this case the bank would be involved) and making the car pay itself off (by taking people to rides, it pays pretty well, It's what I've been doing with my E36 before) and keep both of them.
Should I trade in my absolute pride and joy, my most beloved possesion for a maybe? I love that beamer, but maybe sometimes, it's time to let her go and bring joy to someone else.
Also, I've missed a recent big opportunity, almost the same deal but for an S15 Silvia (300k, but offered for me at 250k) SR20 fully built motor, in the end, now this car is with a homie of mine's, and I've ridden along, that car is a beast. I fully regret not taking it, however, at the time I didn't have the money to afford that car if something broke, much less the wait of parts coming from Japan, the high cost maintenance, it just maybe wasn't for me.
My E36 is not stock, it has already fully adjustable drift suspension, a rollcage, buckets and more, so does that Z, it's got a lot of good parts and so did the Silvia, so I don't know what to do at this point in my life, maybe I should keep my E36 and just pull her over, just take her on an occasional drive until I have the money

This car was impounded because it was used by criminals for drug trafficking and the chassis had been scrapped off and altered. However, it was up for 3200 min bid (630 USD), sold at 4900 (964 USD)
Wanted to save it and use it for parts too, but didn't have time to bid on it (when I saw it, there were only 30 minutes left)
Hey everyone, I have a few questions.
So first up, I've been drifting since March 2025, and I currently have a 325i E36 (M50 Single Vanos), which I need to open up the engine and repair (as currently, 2 out of the 6 piston rings are shot, leaving me with pretty much a 4 cylinder car), and it's very weak. However, it'll be a while and I need another drift car during the time I'm building my main car (with the best parts I can afford, which might put her into rest for a few months), so I've been thinking about the W202 C280, with the 2.8 M104 engine as my replacement, it's a pretty solid engine, but I don't know much about the W202 platform. E36s are on a rise since I started here in Brazil, with fewer cheap ones available, much less those with the non-Vanos M50. This W202 would be my "show car", to use in drift events and practice more, while my E36 would be my championship car. My current car has coilovers, a standalone Pandoo ECU, roll cage and more. The W202 would need it's wiring redone, but I can find some pretty good ones for cheap, around 20k BRL, where as good E36s, they've been selling all round for cheap, leaving only the more expensive "collector" units, for 50-60k for autos and 50-70k+ for manuals, which is right on the market, as since I got mine, is what they've been going for. I also need to do more research on the Merc, since I'm not entirely sure on how acessible performance parts are from Europe.
If anyone can let me know if they're a good handling chassis, I'd really apreciate it. Got one with shot wiring for 16k BRL right in my sights, and a few other ones from 20-30k, which used to be able to buy me a good auto E36 a while ago

While the E30's VIN is weird, since it shows the VIN of a 325i sedan however, it has been confirmed that at least one M3 E30 has been destroyed by the Cash for Clunkers program, the other ones by the VIN shown the following: 1991 E34 Schwarz II manufactured in October 2nd 1990, 1988 M5 Schwarz Avus, manufactured in June 27th 1987 and last, the other Schwarz Avus E28 M5, from September 28th 1987
Man, I almost popped a vein, then went into deep sadness from this
Fala galera, tudo bem?
First three pics are 2006 vs currently
Was browsing Marketplace (looking for an actually affordable EJ1, here in Brazil, they used to cost 15-20 grand, now they cost upwards of 40, even for an auto), found this one, 1994 EJ1, Canadian (2HG is what the VIN starts with), EX, 19 grand. Honestly I thought of buying it, but this one would need too much money and labour to bring it back to it's former glory, listing is pending now (means owner has closed a deal but hasn't sold it yet)

So recently, I did all the upgrades I wanted to do to my E36, well... almost all of them.
I have a brand new suspension and a great set of rims that I love, yet know will come the most expensive part... engine tuning
I currently have an NA M50B25 single VANOS, and I'm stuck between three options to upgrade.
Option 1: Turbocharge the M50.
This is a good and reliable option, yet expensive. To build an M50 like it should be (forged internals, ARP head screws and so and so forth), the cost I'll have here in Brazil will be of +70-100k BRL (13800-20000 USD) including labor from my tuner (the best BMW engine builder in all of Brazil)
Option 2: LS swap. This would be good to keep the car NA and some power, as well as being a brand new engine. However I'll need to bring it to Brazil, pay taxes and all, which will be around the same price as the M50 and maybe the same power, but it'll be simpler and less demanding on maintenance.
Option 3: 1JZ/2JZ swap: Will be cheaper, but engine will need to be brought from Japan and all, not many parts for the JZ family in Brazil since the only car that had this engine here was the Lexus GS300 (we had the SC400 but only with the 1UZ). Overall a good choice for value but still a bit unsure.
I'm more in between the first two options, but still haven't decided anything.
