Wear earbuds all day to manage noise. Got a surprise call. They heard everything I was blocking out.
I wear earbuds most of the day for sensory management. Open offices, busy environments, anywhere there's too much input: earbuds plus ANC help a lot.
When an unexpected call comes in and I answer, I'm fine on my end. For the person calling, I apparently sound like I'm in the middle of whatever chaotic space I was blocking out.
Had a quick call with my manager while in an open office. On my end: tolerable, I was in my ANC bubble. On her end: she could hear the entire floor, the HVAC, a conversation two rows over.
Can earbuds actually eliminate background noise on both sides of a call, or does the ANC only fix what the wearer hears while doing nothing for the mic? I need something that works for both because I can't predict when calls come in and I can't always step away.
on stakeholder calls all day in an open office. need earbuds that create some kind of quiet bubble. is that actually possible.
"Senior PM at a mid-size tech company. My calendar is basically a sequence of stakeholder calls: engineering syncs, exec updates, vendor negotiations, cross-functional reviews.
I'm in an open office. Always. The engineering team is noisy. The product team is noisier. I can block out what I hear fine. The problem is what stakeholders hear on their end.
Executive sponsors on calls have asked about background noise twice this quarter. Once from a VP I was trying to get a budget decision from. Timing could not have been worse.
I know there's software that filters noise. Running it. Still not enough in our space. Looking for earbuds that create a quiet bubble or at least something that meaningfully reduces what the mic picks up in an open office environment. Does that actually exist or is this category still basically unsolved.
What is the most memorable conversation you’ve ever had with a stranger while traveling?
Sometimes the best part of a trip isn't the landmarks or the food, but the people you randomly cross paths with. Whether it was a long chat with someone on a train, a local sharing stories at a cafe, or another traveler at a hostel what’s a conversation that completely changed your perspective or stuck with you years later?
Do streaming platforms undervalue viewers and community members?
One thing I’ve been thinking about lately is how much modern streaming depends on communities doing more than just watching.
Viewers clip moments, share streams, stay active in chat, welcome new people, create memes, help with moderation, and keep communities alive even when the streamer is offline. In a lot of cases, the audience is part of what makes the channel feel valuable in the first place.
But most platforms still treat viewers like passive traffic. Creators have monetization tools, advertisers get attention, and platforms benefit from engagement, but the community side of streaming often feels overlooked.
I’m not saying every viewer needs to be paid or rewarded for everything. That could easily become weird or transactional. But I do wonder whether future streaming platforms will give communities more meaningful recognition for the value they help create.
Curious what others think: would this make streaming communities stronger, or would it take away from the natural feeling of just hanging out and supporting a creator?
Monitoring commercial cleaning robots remotely.
I am looking at buying a few commercial floor scrubbing robots for my warehouse. I want to monitor their status remotely. I have been looking at monitoring systems on Alibaba, Amazon and eBay. Some claim to work with any robot through API integration. I am curious if anyone here has set up remote monitoring for cleaning robots. What tools do you use to track them? Do you get alerts when a robot gets stuck or runs low on battery? I want to manage my fleet without walking around checking each one.
I read mostly at night before bed. My phone screen keeps me awake. I want to buy an ebook reader with a backlight that is easy on the eyes. I have been searching online across Alibaba, Amazon, and eBay for affordable options. New Kindles are a bit expensive for me right now. I saw some used and refurbished devices for around forty to fifty dollars. Has anyone here bought a used ebook reader from such places? I read long novels like fantasy door stoppers. I need something comfortable to hold for hours. Please share your experiences with budget friendly ereaders.
I manage a warehouse with large sliding doors that are twenty feet wide. The rollers on these doors are failing after years of use. Manufacturer replacement parts are expensive and take weeks to arrive. I decided to look online at places like Alibaba, Amazon and eBay for heavy duty industrial rollers suppliers. I found steel rollers with sealed bearings rated for thousands of pounds. The prices are much lower than what my regular supplier charges. But I worry about quality for such a critical application. Has anyone here bought industrial door rollers from these places for warehouse use? How long did they last under daily operation? I cannot afford a door getting stuck open or closed. Please share your experiences.
I work on cars in my semi-heated garage during winter. Cleaning greasy engine parts with semi hot water is miserable. I am looking for a portable storage electric water heater that can keep a bucket of hot water ready. I have seen small tank heaters online at places like Alibaba, Amazon, and eBay. Some are only five gallons while others are fifteen gallons. I need something that heats water to at least one hundred degrees and holds temperature for a few hours. Has anyone here used a small electric water heater for shop or garage use? How long does it take to heat up and are there any safety tips for using water and electricity near automotive work? I want to stay warm without spending too much money.
I have an old electric water heater from the 1982 that still works but needs some repair (the heating element is starting to fail). I have been searching online at places like Alibaba, Amazon, and eBay for compatible parts since the manufacturer went out of business years ago. I did find out modern elements have different thread sizes and wattage ratings . Has anyone here successfully found replacement parts for an old water heater on these marketplaces? Do I need to adapt modern parts to fit? I want to keep this old appliance running rather than disposing it Please share your water heater repair experiences.
I run a youth sports program and need to buy bulky inflatable balls in larger quantities. Think kickballs, dodgeballs, and playground balls. Local suppliers charge high prices. I started looking on Alibaba and found sellers offering balls for three to five dollars each. The minimum order quantities are around fifty to one hundred pieces. That is fine for our program. But I am nervous about quality consistency across a bulk order. Has anyone here ordered inflatable balls in bulk from Alibaba for a school, camp, or league? How was the durability and air retention and did the balls match the photos and descriptions? I want to stretch our budget without receiving a shipment of defective merchandise.
Hi all, I came across a supplier offering “genuine leather” lace-up boots at around $20 per pair with a 50-pair MOQ. Their listings on DHgate, Global Sources and Alibaba looked appealing, with polished product photos, but I know visuals don’t always match real-world quality. I’ve previously sold electronics and furniture through online retail channels, but I want to try footwear, which seems more complex due to sizing variability and higher return risk. From a product marketing perspective, I’m trying to understand how sellers position and validate footwear sourced this way, especially around trust and fit. Is it standard practice to order samples first despite higher shipping costs before committing to bulk inventory. Would appreciate honest experiences and tips.
We are upgrading our factory automation system and need around 20 motor controllers for small conveyor motors. Brand name units are quite expensive, so I’ve been looking at similar controllers on Alibaba at about 30% of the cost.
Some suppliers claim they use the same components as major brands, which sounds good, but I’m cautious about reliability and long-term performance.
For those who have sourced industrial motor controllers from Alibaba, how did they perform over time? Were there any issues with consistency between units or batches?
Also, how was the technical support when problems came up?
This is for a production environment, so downtime is a big concern. I’d really appreciate hearing real experiences before moving forward.
Hey everyone, I'm currently tasked with sourcing motor controllers for a small production firm. The management wants me to explore reliable online sellers for budget motor controllers, but I am hesitant. As an engineer I know how to write specifications for domestic suppliers, but ensuring quality from overseas sources feels different. I am unsure what to include in a request for quotation beyond voltage, current, and communication protocols. I have seen listings on DHgate, AliExpress, Alibaba and similar places but I'm considering demanding certificates like CE or RoHS, though I question whether those are meaningful from online suppliers. Verifying that delivered products match samples also concerns me because I have read horror stories about bait and switch. If you have successfully specified and sourced motor controllers from online places for a professional use, I would be grateful to hear your experiences on the procurement process and what to avoid.
