Kenmore Portable AC

Kenmore 10 K BTU dual hose portable AC with remote control, purchased used in 2010 for CAD $300 , Toronto Canada.

I love that it has de-humidification mode because the modern de-humidifiers only last 3-5 years! There is still a minor cooling side effect which is perfect for summer climate control. AC mode is also working for very hot weather but my home is well shaded and rarely used.

The only issue is finding the air hoses that actually fit. Found one that fits onto the machine but not the window boot, but its close enough to be workable.

Got this fully functional 1970/80s does 1950s blender today for $12.99 and found out my MIL bought the same model when it came out...

Apparently it was still working great in the 2010s when it disappeared. This one makes great smoothies

How to get Stainless Steel Appliances looking like new

Hello all,
My stainless steel appliances need a very good and thorough deep cleaning. My fridge has some rust stains and my oven is just really grimey. Does anyone have recommendations or suggestions on how I can properly clean my appliances so they look brand new? Also, do you recommend using a protective sealant or coating once the deep cleaning is done? Any comments and product suggestions would be beyond greatly appreciated! TIA!

Looking for a used dryer

I'm in western Washington state. My dryer is slowly dying. It currently works on timed drying only.

I've been told that a service call plus parts, from a store + repair shop, would be about the same cost as a low-end brand new dryer.

An independent appliance repair person looked at photos of the dryer. He said he didn't think he could even get parts anymore for that model because it's so old.

There are secondhand shops in my town that carry appliances.

Before I make the rounds, are there particular brands that people recommend? I prefer durable, simple to use, and hopefully easy to repair.

Also, what is a reasonable price?

Was at my local Habitat for Humanity store today. They had a nonfunctional used dryer for sale. That doesn't work for me. I don't know how to repair it myself.

What can you tell me about our new baby?

Just picked her up! I think we have a missing door plate but it is otherwise pretty pristine (need to reseal the door). Any tips and tricks, info about the exact model (or where I could get that) or where we could find the correct door plate?

Scored Old Maytag Washer & Dryer at an Estate Sale. Anyone have more info?

I'm not sure when they were made but both are in great shape and come with spare parts, manuals, etc. The washer is like a tank!

Identifying year of Maytag wringer washer

Family member has a Maytag wringer washer and trying to find out what year it is. It is model E2LS and serial number 33282 UY. Also has 745G on the plate, not sure if that says anything about it. I tried searching but didn't find anything, maybe my search skills not so good. One thing I do know is that thing has some weight to it.

Any estimates on when this may have been made?

I am 30 and my dad is convinced he’s had it since before I was born. I have been using this to make cookies and cakes literally my entire life. Google ai is telling me this model was produced from 1960-1979 but obviously that is not a reliable source. I am curious if anyone here could give me more information on this model. It still runs perfectly!

Trying to replace the thermostat in my O'Keefe & Merritt oven

I have an Okeefe and Merritt model 2040-3 oven that works great, but requires us to keep an eye on a thermometer and keep messing with the control to maintain temp. I'm thinking it needs a new thermostat, because if I set it to 400, it'll heat. At 350, it'll maintain temp fairly well, and anything below that seemingly acts as if it's off. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate the help! I tried to include as many pictures as I could to help

Help identifying washing machine!

I got a run of the mill portable washing machine through Facebook marketplace and the person offered his old metal one for free since he was trying to get rid of it. I want to know some information about it (if it’s a pump drain or gravity drain) but I’ve had difficulty finding information about it online other than it’s likely from before 1985?

In the photos I have the two instances of model numbers, the exterior and knob closeups, and the interior of the washer and the spin dryer.

Is a vintage fridge actually practical for a small cafe?

I run a tiny cafe in an old brick building downtown and my landlord just offered me this gorgeous 1950's glass door cooler he had sitting in storage. The timing is funny because our current commercial refrigerator has started making that low “death rattle” hum and froze half my prep yesterday.

I’m obsessed with the look of this old unit - rounded corners, chrome handle, the whole thing - but I’ve only ever used modern stainless stuff. I’ve been binging posts here and then looking at new options late at night, like some shiny double glass door merchandiser type commercial refrigerator I saw while price hunting, and now my brain is mush.

For those of you who actually use vintage fridges/freezers in a working kitchen or shop: how do they hold up day to day? Do health inspectors give you grief? Is it realistic to keep them cold and reliable with updated compressors/controls, or am I being romantic and setting myself up for constant repairs?

Would love any stories, pics, or “if I could do it again” advice.

It works again!!! (50-year-old GE microwave oven)

The past decade has been a bit busy and stressful for me, so when, maybe 7 years ago, my vintage 1976 GE microwave oven stopped working, I replaced it with one I immediately picked up at a garage sale. That one I also had to replace some years later, and I may have even replaced it again, since.

So when the current incarnation crapped out on me -- rather obviously, "ZAPF!!!" -- I crept on down to the basement to check whether I had any microwave there that actually worked. (You didn't think I'd actually thrown these things away, did you?!) The second one I plugged in was the one I bought at Sears in about 1976 (a 1975 model on close-out sale, IIRC). I plugged it in and it came alive! So I put a small glass jar of water into it and gave it a half a minute or so -- and it got warm. Cut to the chase, I now have that 50-year-old microwave oven back in my kitchen, working well, apparently.

Cast your mind back to appliances of 1976: No mother board. No clock. No digital display or any display at all for that matter. The timer is mechanical -- like the heat-lamp timers in motel bathrooms. But it works! I don't know how long it will keep working -- it did seem to die some years back -- but it's working now. I'm sipping ginger tea I just made from a mug of water I heated in the thing. I'm tickled.
