Does anyone else have mental health issues alongside their PCOS/PMOS?
I have quite bad PCOS/PMOS. I'm also really obese but I'm not sure if my mental health is affected by PCOS/PMOS. I know it definitely lowers my confidence because I am really hairy. I have a hirsutism, rapidly gained weight, have thin hair on my scalp and sometimes have irregular periods.
I am on medication for my mental health, but it doesn't always work that well. I have a diagnosis of OCD and autism. My moods are bad though. I get so irritable and annoyed when something even minor goes wrong. If someone doesn't hear me or understand me, I get frustrated. Around others I'm not comfortable with, I get scared and mask a lot. I'm scared of confrontation and speaking my mind. Being obese makes me feel like I'm also not allowed to stand up for myself.
For some years I have been so depressed and nearly you-know-what myself. Other years like in 2015, I lost so much weight that I think I went manic (not formally diagnosed with a mood disorder). I lost a lot of weight and sometimes would nearly pass out at the gym from not eating. I had so much confidence and felt like I wanted to meet so many college boys my age when I was 16.
This whole cycle of being high and then low and then high and then low has gone on for years. However, it's at a standstill now. Now that I'm so obese it's like I've given up. I want to lose weight, but it's really fucking hard because of my PMOS and mental health. Also kind of not relevant but I feel like I don't want to date even when I do eventually lose the weight because of my bizarre thoughts that feel real. I am on an antidepressant and antipsychotic. I believe maybe the antipsychotic hasn't helped with my weight.
My GP (who is a lovely guy!) referred me to the Female Hormone Clinic in London. I'm seeing them around December 2026/January 2027 time. If any of you have been there, please let me know!
