Just back from Las Vegas at NetApp Insight and I missed my turntable a lot. I saw Lenny at that very conference when this album was released and I had to buy it the next day. It was a great concert (probably the last real one NetApp had at the conference) and the performance was effortless. This album is seriously good. If you haven't checked it out; you definitely should!
One of my favorites of the day. This was her “breakthrough” record which became one of the staples of my musical diet in 1998… Funny how when you are at a certain place in your life that certain music just fits… while I am no longer in that place; this album still just resonates with me. It is truly a masterpiece and sounds so dang good. Happy Tuesday folks!
Straight out of 1972… This time capsule is sounding phenomenal after a kirmuss treatment with the ultrasonic… it was my mom’s so I can guarantee it had plenty of nicotine in the grooves, lolz 😆
However, you can tell this was one of her favorite albums as it is reasonably good shape. So I’ll just sit here and listen to it and think of her… she did hospice in my house about 3 years ago and it was super sad as she passed at only 66…
Anyone here have experience with this one? I have an Ortofon 2M Black that I don’t really like. It’s a surface noise machine, it doesn’t do especially well with inner groove distortion and the QC is meh ok at best as the cantilever has a slight offset since day 1. Now I have an AT33 PTG/2 that I adore… I also have an AT 545xml (5 series body with 45xml stylus) I also adore…
My AT33 is getting a little long in the tooth as it’s my daily driver and I listen to it ALOT! So I am thinking it’s new MC time… I had considered seriously the Mofi Studio Silver as I like the design and it seems to be an AT OC9xml generator with an AT33 compliance profile and then I saw this… a microridge on an Ortofon? I need real life examples of how this is now like the other Ortofon products I’ve tried
This reissue sounds really good and one of my favorite albums! It’s just so thick and dynamic. God I love Trent Reznor! But one small disappointment was the QC on this one… required an ultrasonic cleaning and a cycle through the orb. I mean am I silly to expect a higher level of fit and finish when you plunk down $40 for a single album? Well $3100 worth of tools later; it sounds like a million bucks! Guess this is just where we are at these days… Even so I can now just enjoy which is what it’s all about.
The MCA-5220 issue of Who’s Next which is denoted as a limited run 1980 issue as MCA masterphile 1/2 speed mastered reissue. Not the quietest pressing I own but sure does sound good to me!

So that's my humble setup... I am considering the following:
I simply want to replace the Fosi with it and then hook my parasound preamp (will upgrade later) to the XLR in, and connect my WIIM via toslink into the box's DAC..
I was looking at the Eversolo DMP-A8 but it appears you get 0 processing on the analog ins... To get that I have to upgrade to the DMP-A10 and it's like $4000.00... I am on a bit of a budget (self imposed) and just want to get the option of some processing for room correcting and eq. I want to also be able to turn that off if I don't want to use it. Does anyone have any thoughts about this?
It's been a week of Mondays and the only thing keeping me sane is a trip down memory lane. This album is no exception. I have played this one to death since 1983. It's such a good album start to finish. Happy Friday folks! I hope it's not your fifth Monday like me!
This one has been well looked after and been a part of the family collection it's whole life. It is a super sounding example and even though you can tell it's been well loved; it's quiet as a mouse. Now for the album itself; I remember listening to this growing up and then later owning it on CD as it sat dormant. So glad I never got rid of my collection as a kid. Now I am enjoying them as a 49 year old with the system I couldn't afford as a kid. 😂
I think some of the gatekeepers in this hobby don't spend enough time on the connection they felt earlier in life and revisiting the nostalgia. I consider myself to be lucky in this regard.
I listened to this CD (yeah that's originally how I acquired it) until I think it literally had a groove in it... LOLz 😄 Picked up this reissue and it doesn't disappoint. It not only takes me right back but it is actually a really good sounding pressing. I would have much rather had it on black vinyl but this was a local pickup and I just couldn't say no... Glad I didn't! I hate cleaning white records but I just skipped the guesswork and ultrasonic'd it... Happy Tuesday people!
Another hand me down in my collection! This has been well loved in its 46 years… guess in used cars it’s a two owner lolz 😆 This is a good work nonetheless and seems like a good Monday spin!
Seemed like a good thing to do today… It’s been a crap week and today is packed and Friday is supposed to be a good day… let’s see if this record from my high school days can help.
Supposed I played these out of order. I really miss my original pressing that was stolen from me while spinning an art showing Columbus. However Jackpot records to the rescue. Great mastering and quiet pressing… It did arrive with an edge warp but the orb fixed all that. So many memories with this record. Just something about this music coming from an instrument built out of junk because lack of funding necessitated invention! Kind of glad because I wonder if the music would have lost its luster without it.
Reissue but good enough for me… The album that was their demise and all too early… Guess you can’t depict yourself in a Pan Am cockpit and playing a banjo of crash wreckage on the rear without a lawsuit… just a shame because to me the Simeon was the beginning of electronic music.
Another one out of the family collection. This one is older than me… I did inherit two clean copies. Apparently both my mom and uncle decided they couldn’t share this one… This is his copy with the original hype sticker… His records generally never touched inferior styli while my mom’s did get played on some “questionable” equipment… you can tell but I still spin hers on the Miracord in the more forgiving setup since she has passed and I still do it for nostalgia’s sake. This is definitely one of my favorite listens… even if I disagree with the outrageous design (I prefer just plain black) the actual sound and QC of this reissue is really good! Happy Wednesday folks!
Michigan week continues with some Grand Funk! I love this pressing! It’s a little beaten up but so am I. Life has surface noise and is not perfect and neither is this record but just like me it has history. Still playable but noisy.

Welp I checked out and ended up just paying for it… funny enough story; this was the table it was played on upon that check out… my deceased best friend’s deceased father’s prized electronic possession. Gone is the old cart (tucked away) and present is a 2M Black that does a decent job on this one… The tinnyness of this pressing seems to like the shibata…
I currently own a 2021 Lexus RX350 AWD Luxury Package that I purchased new and have been pretty happy with it over the past 49,000 miles. My chief complaint has always been that it was a very vanilla anonymous car that did about everything well except provide driving excitement. I considered a BMW X5 at the time but the seats were like sitting on concrete blocks compared to the Lexus and there was no way to defeat the auto engine stop other that throwing it into sport every time and that was unacceptable. I sit in traffic driving from Lexington, KY to Cleveland, OH and other parts plenty and when the motor stops the AC gets hot and in the humidity belt that is annoying and unacceptable. I also considering a Mercedes ML E350 but that thing was a four cylinder dog and I just couldn't... It also pondered around the road and had 0 on center feel.
I never considered the Acura until now. I have always owned a car with at least some driving fun and it seems like in the land of Lexus they too have lost their minds with the new 4 cylinder lineup of the RX... Not to mention it is hideous to look at and seemingly smaller. I considered a Genesis G80 or G70 as well but I can't help but feel it's just a fancy Hyundai. The Acura seems not to suffer from being a fancy Honda and actually I love the thought of a 3L V6 twin scroll turbo and the fact I might be able to tune it later.
