17M looking for friends, dm please
Hello, I am 17M looking for someone to be friends with or just have some casual conversations. I like anime and cycling. My dms are open!!
Things you should know about every 2nd gen. IIT before joining them
Here is a completely unfiltered take on my comparison of all gen.2 IITs in general:
Dhanbad: Seriously lacking in infrastructure and campus life(also confirmed by my friend who went there for some event) and bad placement records since past few years except few core branches. Also, there is a very dumb ragging culture there in which seniors make you call them sir/mam and make you do dumb tasks and memorise lewd poems and whatnot. Please read this post before you make your decision to join ism, the ragging alone was a deal breaker for me in regard to joining ism. Also Dhanbad is a really backward city with no night life at all.
Patna: Patna has been caught publishing fake placement stats a few years back, iirc they published their cs average to be 40 or something which is very fishy behaviour from an IIT. Also, the students there are seriously sick of their corrupt management and admin which does not even do basic maintenance of the campus properly. I think you should know, last month, a student of IIT Patna died because of being electrocuted by a lighting pole which was not maintained properly. Seriously. Corruption like this is not expected from an IIT. Check out this post:

Mandi: Mandi has the worst placements in general out of all the IITs mentioned here by a high margin. Period. The cutoffs go high because its a beautiful place which it really is. If you don't care about placements that much and like the mandi campus then you can go there, it will not disappoint. No other major demerits of Mandi. But the campus is divided into two parts and it often gets hectic for the students to go from one to another as the only way is by bus.
Jodhpur: Jodhpur is actually one of the better ones on this list. The only thing with Jodhpur is that their director changed last year and he has driven the 25 batch to shit. Placements this year are kinda subpar too. Way too many unnecessary restrictions and rules. Ask any Jodhpur guy. Also Jodhpur faced a water crisis this month where students were forced to collect water from tankers. Jodhpur mess also refused to serve rotis during the LPG crisis a few months ago which almost every IIT managed without any problem. Both of these things are seriously very dumb and not expected from an IIT. Apart from that, Jodhpur is okay.
Ropar: Placement wise it is the best among gen. 2s mentioned here. Sports infra here is dogshit. Like seriously, there is not one indoor badminton court or volleyball court on the entire campus, only outdoor ones. No swimming pool at all. Food options in campus are very limited and not on par. But honestly, food outlets saw a huge improvement this year itself. But they are still lacking. Many buildings on the campus are undergoing construction or being renovated i.e the LHC and the UT are getting another floor on top of the existing one (LHC is done now tho). Ropar as a city is surely the worst out of all of these except Dhanbad or equal to Patna maybe.
There you go. I have told you the major things that you should know about every gen.2 IIT which no one will tell you and which might give you fomo after you go there.
This is not a post to show that Ropar is the best IIT or Jodhpur is the best IIT but to prevent gatekeeping of certain knowledge from the next batch of freshers. If you feel like there is something else that must be said about any college, say it in the comments.
