Are Bose QuietComfort headphones still the king of comfort and ANC?

Are Bose QuietComfort headphones still the king of comfort and ANC?

I’ve been out of the headphone game for a few years, so I’m curious where things stand today.

I recently bought the latest Bose QuietComfort (standard version) because I remembered how insanely comfortable the QC line was. I used an older QC model before, and the new ones are pretty much the same in terms of comfort. Every time I put them on, I’m reminded why I loved them, they’re just so easy to wear for hours.

Now I’m thinking about getting a pair of AirPods Pro and I’m wondering how their ANC compares to the Bose QC headphones. Is it close, or is Bose still noticeably better? Also, how comfortable are the AirPods Pro for longer listening sessions?

And more generally, are the Bose QuietComfort headphones still among the best for noise cancellation, or have other brands overtaken them?

Hifiman Arya Organic vs. Arya Unveiled: Why the sudden shift to a warmer sound?

Hey everyone,

I have been closely analyzing the Arya Organic and the new Arya Unveiled, and the contrast between them is fascinating.

I hear nothing but praise for the Organic. People call it absolute magic, mostly because of that classic, trebly, hyper-detailed Hifiman performance.
But the new Arya Unveiled completely throws me off. Everything the Organic is famous for seems totally changed. Instead of that bright and sparkly detail, Hifiman is shifting straight into a warmer sound signature.

And it is not just the Arya. Hifiman seems to be pushing their whole lineup toward this warmer, darker, and more "neutral" tuning. You can clearly see the exact same thing when comparing the new Edition XV to the older Edition XS.

So I have to ask, why the sudden philosophy change? Are they just trying to avoid treble fatigue, or is this a new market trend? For those who have tried both, I am really curious if the Unveiled loses that classic Arya magic by playing it safe with this new tuning.

I really do not know what to make of this major shift. I would love to hear your thoughts and theories!

Is the Arya Unveiled a downgrade from the Arya Organic?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been going down the HiFiMAN rabbit hole again and I’m genuinely conflicted about where the Arya lineup is heading. I'm looking at what comes after the Arya Organic, but the new Arya Unveiled feels like a complete 180 in terms of tuning.

When the Organic dropped, it felt like the answer to a lot of prayers. Yes, it was definitely bright and aggressive, but that’s exactly what made it fun. It had that massive, airy soundstage, the bass slammed hard, and the details were hyper-sharp. It wasn't perfectly neutral, but it gave you an immediate "wow" factor right out of the box.

But looking at the Unveiled, it seems like HiFiMAN completely abandoned that DNA for something way "safer." From what I’m seeing, it trades all that visceral energy for a warmer, much more neutral sound. The treble is completely tamed (which is great if the Organic was ear murder for you, I guess), but it also scales back that huge, grand soundstage for a more intimate and "correct" presentation. Plus, the daily anxiety of dealing with fully exposed drivers and snapping on those magnetic veils every time you take them off seems like a massive hassle.

It honestly feels like the Unveiled isn’t a true successor to the Organic at all, it's more like a refined Arya Stealth that avoids stepping on anyone's toes.

For those who have A/B tested both, is the Unveiled actually a bit boring compared to the Organic, or does the technical refinement make up for the loss in energy?

And if the Unveiled isn't the true spiritual successor to the Organic's massive, punchy sound... what actually is? Do you have to jump straight to the HE1000se to get that feeling back, or is it time to look outside of HiFiMAN entirely? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Why do some EA897 3.0 TDI engines die from low oil pressure while others easily make 300k-500k km?

Title:

I’ve been researching these engines for the last couple of weeks because I’m thinking about buying an Audi A6 3.0 TDI. The deeper I dig, the more confused I get.

I’m not talking about one specific engine code like CRTE or CRTD. I mean the whole EA897 family (CRT, CZV, DDV, DMG, etc.).

On one hand, there are people saying these engines are ticking time bombs because of low oil pressure at hot idle, worn rod bearings and destroyed crankshafts.

On the other hand, I keep finding taxis and private owners with 350k, 400k or even 500k+ km on the original engine.

So what’s actually going on?

Is it really a design flaw, or are we just seeing the failed ones because people with healthy engines never post online?

I’ve seen all kinds of theories:

  • LongLife service intervals
  • Variable oil pressure strategy
  • Fuel dilution from DPF regens
  • Oil pressure control valve
  • Bearing tolerances
  • Lugging the engine at low RPM
  • Wrong oil
  • Poor maintenance
  • Bad luck

But nobody seems to agree.

I’d really like to hear from people who actually work on these engines or have owned one for a long time.

  • Have you seen a pattern with the engines that fail?
  • Are the high-mileage ones usually serviced differently?
  • Has anyone measured actual hot idle oil pressure with a mechanical gauge?
  • Do you think changing the oil every 10-15k km instead of using LongLife makes a noticeable difference?
  • When you’ve rebuilt one of these engines, what actually failed first?

I’m not looking for “my friend’s cousin blew one up” stories. I’d much rather hear from Audi techs, independent VAG specialists, engine rebuilders or owners who’ve put serious mileage on these engines.

I’m just trying to understand why one EA897 ends up with a destroyed crankshaft at 150k km while another is still happily running at 450k km.

Curious to hear your experiences.

Hifiman Design vs. Tuning: Edition XV and Arya Organic Comparison

Looking at the aesthetic direction Hifiman is taking lately. The Edition XV design is incredibly striking with that sleek silver finish and the dotted metal grille. It is a completely different look from their traditional styles.

On the other hand, the Arya Organic features those distinct wood veneer rings and the classic black window shade grilles which give it a very premium feel.

For anyone who has spent time with both of these pairs, how much of the performance gap comes down to pure technical resolution versus just a shift in the tuning profile? I am really curious how that unique industrial look of the XV holds up against the classic Arya soundstage and imaging.

DT1990 Pro MKII Owner Looking for the Next Step – Dynamic or Planar?

I’ve been using the DT1990 Pro MKII for a while and really enjoy them. The detail, imaging, and overall technical performance are excellent.

My only real complaint is the bass. It’s clean and controlled, but I’d like more impact and sub-bass presence. Because of that, I’m wondering whether my next upgrade should be another high-end dynamic headphone or if I should move to planars.

For those who owned the DT1990 and moved on, what path did you take? Did planars give you the bass improvement you were looking for while keeping the detail and technical performance? Or did you ultimately prefer higher-end dynamics?

I’m mainly looking for real-world experiences from people who have spent time with both driver types.

How can I contact Real-Debrid for a refund after Stremio stopped working?

I subscribed to Real-Debrid mainly for use with Stremio, but it’s no longer working properly for me.

Does anyone know how to contact Real-Debrid support to request a refund? If someone has done it before, please let me know the best way to reach them.

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I ran into a worrying issue with photo backup in the UGREEN NAS mobile app and wanted to check if anyone else has seen this.

Before deleting anything from my phone, the app showed that everything was backed up. I trusted that status, removed/reinstalled the app, and after setting it up again, it suddenly found 1,000+ additional photos that still needed to be backed up.

That makes me concerned that the app’s “backup complete” status may not be reliable, or that it is using some local app state/cache rather than fully verifying against the actual photo library and NAS contents.

A few questions:

  1. Has anyone else had the app say everything was backed up, only to later discover many photos were missed?
  2. Is there any reliable way to force a full rescan/recheck of the phone photo library?
  3. Does the app compare against existing NAS files, or does it only track what it has uploaded locally?
  4. Is there a safe workflow for confirming all photos are backed up before deleting them from the phone?

This feels pretty risky because the main purpose of photo backup is trust. If the app reports that everything is backed up when it is not, users could lose photos permanently.

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.
