Affordable dress hemming

Hi, I have a bridesmaids dress with chiffon that needs to be hemmed. I already spent a lot of money on the dress and I won’t wear it again. If it wasn’t chiffon, I’d do it myself.

Is there an affordable tailor or laundromat that would do this? Thank you!

Devastated. Didn’t know she went back to the original date for MSG 😭

Update: was first in line at the box office lol They said the only tickets available were VIP tickets that cost about $400. They didn’t know whether or not they’d release more standard tickets for tonight. But he said it is sold out. I’ll keep my eyes on Ticketmaster and hope they add more for tonight. 😭

E2: bought on vivid seats and it worked! I’ll see if there anything I can do for a reimbursement of sorts, but I doubt it. You’re all so darn nice and supportive. **Thank you for your kind words and helping me in a tough morning!** 💜💜💜

I bought presale within minutes back in September. I postponed a big vacation, and more to attend LUX tour on Tuesday, 9/16. Then my friend and I rearranged our work schedules AND I sold my Thursday Jimmy Eat World tickets to attend the new 9/18 date. I had originally thought it was delayed bc of the Knicks, but then I saw she said something about a family emergency which delayed other tour dates. So I didn’t realize it was delayed specifically for the Knicks.

I just didn’t see the Ticketmaster email from Sunday and I swear I checked the Ticketmaster app on Monday and it still said Thursday!!! I went onto insta this morning and saw she played the original date of Tuesday, 9/16.

I can’t tell you, I am so upset. I’ve been looking forward to this for ages. I did tons of research and reading about the saints, analysis of lyrics bc I love a good hagiography, and I’ve become floored with her artistry.

And the worst is that I did absolutely nothing yesterday!!! I would have been there! I am just so incredibly upset bc I thought I did everything right.

Does anyone know if there is a way to exchange for Wednesday? I can’t afford 400$ (basically 500$ bc I already spent 100)? 😭😭

16th-century beesuit I sewed for the opening of a new apiary at Oxford University

I’m the president and founder of the Oxford University Beekeeping Society, and around World Bee Day last month I opened the university’s first student teaching apiary in 185 years. 200 years ago we had a predecessor in the Oxford Apiarist Society, but they went defunct in 1841 when their founder left Oxford to introduce beekeeping to New Zealand (and later went insane, look Rev. William Cotton up).

To celebrate the occasion I handsewed this early modern beesuit. It's a simple linen tunic along with the wicker woven face cover, and a flower crown we broke out for the ceremony. This wicker style is attested in a few medieval and early modern wood blocks and illuminated manuscripts, notably including Pieter Bruegel’s ‘The Beekeepers and the Birdnester’ (1568) and Sebastian Münster’s Cosmography (1544). When I’m not beekeeping I’m working on a history PhD, so had the fortune of visiting some of the sources in the Bodleian Library archives.

Much of the research and sewing patterns are thanks to u/redbonito who wrote up a guide on the design here:
blamensir.neocities.org/monastery/workshop/sewing/beekeeper

There are a few errors or inaccuracies I’d like to correct in future– the sleeves should be wrapped at the wrist, the wicker face is a little small compared with historical examples, there’s a mistaken gap between the neckline and hood, and I haven’t yet tried my hand at early modern hose or footwear.

On the day we also invited the college choir out to serenade the bees with a 1623 beekeeping melody, Melissomelos, composed by the Oxford alum Charles Butler. Butler was the first beekeeper within Britain to argue that the beehive was ruled by a queen rather than a king in his book the Feminine Monarchie, which concluded with Melissomelos. The melody mimics the real 'piping', or singing behaviour of newborn queen bees, but lyrically is also an allusion to the reign and colonial expansion of Queen Elizabeth I. Oriel College wrote an article on the event which you can find here, and there are some recordings of the choir performance you can find on their social media back on May 6 🐝:

Peanut Butter Triple by Häagen Das

7.5/10

Häagen-Dazs was on sale at my local supermarket, so I picked this one up.

The peanut butter ice cream was very milky and light on peanut butter flavor. At first, I thought it was just a milky vanilla that tasted like peanuts because of the actual peanuts in the ice cream.

The caramelized peanuts are so crunchy, salty, delicious. The caramel ripples tasted just like a salted caramel. There were some very, very thin ribbons in the ice cream. The caramel itself was not very thick, so it wasn’t a prominent texture or flavor like I had hoped. There were a couple of small ribbons of caramel that stuck to the peanuts, so you could actually taste it. But not nearly as much as I would’ve hoped for. The picture above has a small chunk of caramel that is coating a peanut, but the rest of the pint had very thin ribbons if at all.

I am giving it a 7.5 because there were not nearly enough pieces of peanut butter or caramel, even though they were tasty. I almost wished the ice cream was more peanut butter or a different flavor, since it was a very milky flavor that didn’t add a ton, imo. But the pieces of peanuts especially that were there were really good, so can’t hate it. I’m sure some people here would really like it!

Peanut Butter Brittle ** ugh autocorrect right when I hit post ofc lol
