Wah pedal or EV-5 for katana gen 3

Hey all,

So I’m looking to get my first wah pedal, and I was looking at the Vox847A … but then I remembered my katana accepts the Roland ev-5 expression pedal which can be mapped to wah effects in the signal chain.

Does anyone have any preference over a dedicated wah vs the expression pedal and if so why?

Why do DC movies attract so much hate?

Genuinely curious about this, especially off the back of the new Supergirl movie.

In my opinion, the film is bang average. It is not great, but it is not unwatchable either. It is just a fairly mediocre superhero movie. Yet the reaction to it has been so extreme that you would think it was one of the worst films ever made. Personally I enjoyed more of it than I disliked and would give it a 6.5/10.

There have been plenty of much worse movies, both inside and outside the genre, that received nowhere near the same level of anger, review bombing and personal hostility.

I understand that the Snyder films have a very loyal, almost cult-like following. I actually really enjoy the Snyder cuts myself. But realistically, that ship has sailed.

Those actors are not all going to come back and reprise those roles at this point. Too much time has passed, and there is far too much baggage around that era: everything involving Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller, the way Henry Cavill was handled, Ben Affleck’s Batman film falling apart and the general chaos behind the scenes.

I do not blame any of the actors for wanting to move on, but getting that entire group back together just does not seem feasible anymore.

I also understand that no fandom is ever going to agree on everything. You cannot please everyone, especially when people are attached to a particular version of these characters.

But the DC fandom sometimes seems to go far beyond normal criticism or trolling. It becomes genuine hatred towards the actors, directors, writers and even ordinary people who say they enjoyed the movies. There seems to be a section of the fanbase that actively wants every new project to fail because it does not match the version of DC they personally prefer.

What makes this even stranger to me is that these films are based on DC Comics, which is an incredibly messy universe—and I do not necessarily mean that as an insult.

DC has decades of contradictory continuity, alternate Earths, Elseworlds stories, retcons, rewritten histories and countless different versions of the same characters. Fans regularly love several completely different interpretations of Batman, Superman, Supergirl or the Justice League at the same time.

Every comic writer also brings their own interpretation. They take ideas from different eras, change parts of a character’s personality, alter relationships, introduce new elements and combine ideas from across the wider DC universe. That freedom has produced some of the best and most beloved DC stories ever written.

Yet when a filmmaker does essentially the same thing—pulling from several comic runs, choosing a lesser-known version of a character, combining different interpretations or adding their own creative spin—it is suddenly treated as though they fundamentally misunderstand or disrespect the source material.

Obviously, an interpretation can still be badly written or poorly executed. Criticism is fair. But “this is not the version I personally know or prefer” is not the same as “this is not DC.”

In a fictional universe built around multiple interpretations of the same characters, it seems strange that film adaptations are often given so little room to interpret anything.

What I also find odd is that other franchises do not seem to receive the same treatment.

Marvel went through a rough few years and released some absolute stinkers, but there was not the same widespread campaign to have the entire universe shut down. People criticised the films, made jokes and moved on. There was still an assumption that the next project might be better.

The same applies to Star Wars. That fandom can obviously be incredibly toxic too, but people generally still accept that the franchise will continue and that not every project will be for them.

With DC, every average or disappointing movie seems to become evidence that the whole universe is doomed, everyone involved is a fraud and the entire thing needs to be cancelled immediately.

I am not saying people should pretend mediocre movies are good. I am not saying criticism is unfair, or that people should automatically support a film just because it has a DC logo on it.

I just do not understand why the reaction is so much more intense, personal and hostile than it is with most other franchises. A movie cannot simply be average. It has to be a betrayal, an insult or proof that the entire universe is dead.

Why do you think DC movies attract this level of hate?

Is it mainly the Snyder divide, years of bad management and broken promises, the fact that fans are so attached to specific interpretations, tribalism, or has the online culture around DC simply become too toxic to recover?

Dc Infinite Ireland

So DC infinite has been available in the Uk for 4 years now - as well as other countries in mainland Europe, yet there has been absolutely no update on an Irish release date.

I find this bizarre as most of our streaming services in Ireland are paired with the uk (Netflix, Amazon prime).

When it originally started (dc universe) we were told the delays were due to the rights of the shows and movies , yet when they removed the video media - the app still didn’t release - worst still hbo max have released their own streaming service over here now which has all the programmes that we were initially told was delaying the comics app…

It’s very frustrating, even more so when marvel have had their version of the app in the market for close to a decade now. It’s one thing that consistently pushes me away from getting back into DC comics these last few years and I’m certainly not the only one feeling this way.

Imc infinity pass

I’ve been thinking about picking up the infinity pass for the IMC cinema on the headford road- but I am a little confused about the wording of it on their website.

Am I able to see more than one movie on a given day (so long as it isn’t the same movie) or is it capped at just one movie per day using the pass

Whispersync and lord of the rings confusion

Hey all,

So I own all of the Andy Serkis narrated audiobooks for LoTR on audible and I would like to buy the kindle versions so I can use the Whispersync functionality to read along and listen to the narration.

But LoTR has 2 different types of audible runs (Andy and Rob) and several different types of kindle books (the individual copies , the trilogy in one collection and more).

My understanding is that usually you would buy the kindle version and when doing so select to add narration - but as I already own the audiobooks I am a bit confused on how to do this and ensure it works.

Any help is much appreciated

Edit;

Update, I accidentally bought the kindle version which was linked on the same page as the audible book - but I see no option for Whispersync in either audible or kindle (my understanding is it should highlight the words in real time ?)

Interestingly it gives me the option to buy it again on Amazon despite already owning the audiobook

Rhythm and solos vs full lead songs

So I’ve been playing for about 2 years now on an electric.

I find when learning songs, I tend to just learn the chord progressions of the verses and chorus’ and then the lead section for the solo - instead of learning the lead guitar version for the entire song.

If the lead guitar is just a simple appregio of the chords or very repetitive then that might be an exception - but more complicated lead guitar songs like Johnny Marrs’ stuff blows my mind as it just seems like it would take forever to learn all the fills licks and riff’s especially when his don’t repeat very often.

Am I missing out by not learning lead like this, or is strumming the song and then picking the solo a fairly normal way to learn?

I’m not in a band - I’m just playing by myself.

Refret or replace

So my first guitar was a squire affinity hss Strat - one of the Indonesian ones. I’ve had it for 6 years now, but really have only been actively playing this last 2.

Somewhere along the way the second and third frets have gotten a little dinged around the g and b strings.

I’m wondering whether it’s worth it to go and get this refretted/crowned - which would probably be the price of the guitar itself… or if it isn’t worth it.

I do have a new Epiphone riviera but even still - I find myself grabbing my squier much more often due to its comfortability and size.

It does carry some sentimental value in that of my first guitar, but I really can’t see myself upgrading the electronics of it in the future as sinking 2-300 into a 100 euro guitar is a bit mad imo, and likely will buy a player 2 fender Strat in a year or two anyway.

What would you do…

I really like the new luchador masks they sell on the store - but as a fan from Ireland I couldn't care less about the NFL.

But it would be really cool if they capitalised on the idea and started stocking special ones for their ppvs (here's looking at you ALL IN)

Hi all,

So I am considering buying the boss gx-10 as a way to kickstart a pedal board... but currently my only amp is a mustang lt25 - which doesn't have an fx loop or way to bypass its preamp.

My question is - is the gx-10 still a good choice if you can't use its own preamps/cab sims due to being forced to use my physical amps ones ?

I will obviously have to have my physical (pre) amp last in the signal chain so a hypothetical patch might look like guitar > sustain > overdrive > chorus > reverb > loop > physical pre amp .... is there any meaning full loss in quality in having my preamp last like this. (Keep in mind I'm only an intermediate, mostly bedroom , guitarist.. so the absolute finest of margins will likely fall deaf on me as long as the sound is in the ball park.)
