American dental hygienist wanting to move

I’m an American dental hygienist and I’m looking into moving to Australia to attend oral health therapy school, and work in Australia. I am not the “America is the best country” type of American. I am just wanting a safer and better life for my daughter. America is quickly turning into a Christian nationalist country, and I am tried of our healthcare system, school shootings, and the feeling of uncertainty for my family.

My husband works in Aerospace, I work obviously in dentistry, in the public sector for an indigenous tribal facility. I am wondering if anyone on here has ever had the same experience or pathway to migration, please share. I’m not sure how much student debt to experience, if some of my courses will transfer, if I can work and go to school.

I know immigration can be very difficult on the Australian people, of course I don’t want to make it worse. I want to get an education, work, serve the community, and assimilate as best as possible. I have a dear friend who lives in Australia, she was a foreign exchange student to America when we were both children and we’ve kept in contact. She tells me to move everyday. I’d love to find an actual pathway.

Thank you in advance.

HIDA scan done and over with

Had my HIDA scan today and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be! I got the hormone instead of the fatty drink, and had some symptoms. But, nothing intense or crazy. The nuclear medicine tech said I could get my results in “1 to 3 to five…business days” so, can’t wait for that, ha. Kinda worried about not having a result that shows my pain, I’m medically gaslighting myself before someone does it. All we can do is wait and see!!

Postpartum mental health

This will have a major trigger warning for SI and PPD.

When I have my wonderful daughter I felt something in my mind change. I had a profound sense of protection over my child. I thought everyone, not including my husband, wanted to hurt her or kidnap her.

She was very colic. I thought she would be shaken by someone, or that someone would leave her to cry alone for hours.

The scariest experience was going to do night feeds and having depersonalization. I would see myself and my baby in an aerial view. It was almost like I would leave my body, and just watch it. The scariest detail is I would see myself as a child, holding my baby. I would be looking down at like 10 year old me. Scared, tired, in pain, confused.

With all of the recent news, and postpartum mental health being a bigger issue to discuss. I am often reminded why I have one perfect, healthy, beautiful little baby girl.

She is 2.5 now. So smart. So sweet. So funny. I am so lucky I made it out alive. I am lucky I get to be her, and only her, mama.

41 day cycle, ends in disappointment

Welp, after a million pregnancy test and weeks of symptom spotting, my period showed up on the 4th of July. Left family festivities disappointed and confused. I don’t have late cycles, thought I was testing too soon. However, after a blood draw showed my HCG levels were below five, and then three days later my period started, I embrace a new cycle. Very heavy and painful period. Very heavy and painful heart. It happens. Here’s to cycle day 1 *cracks open a diet Dr. Pepper*. Perhaps, some retail therapy will help me feel better lol and a day at the park with my already earth side toddler. There is a sense of relief, the negative test and no period was brutal. I was so hopeful, so excited. I should’ve known better than to get my hopes up.

I can hear my toddler crying for momma while I’m on the toilet. Had to stop typing this for about ten minutes because she was playing with her dad and jumped off the couch right on her booty lol. Told her she’s got a crack in it, might need to go see the doctor. We laughed, I love being her mom. Maybe I’ll get to be another kids mom someday.

I’m kinda a bad mom

A snack I made my toddler. She’s a girl, we love girl dinner.

But, I’m kinda a bad mom.

Dr. Girl Dinner Diaries,

I deleted all social media. I realized am addicted to my phone. Yes, I am on Reddit, I see the confusion. I deleted all social media, but here I am on Reddit? I am a 30 year old millennial, I was deep into tumblr. Reddit almost feels the same, it’s not JUST a social media.

Anyways.

I have noticed that I am addicted to TikTok, bad. I noticed I was getting so overestimated by my daughter. She is 2, full of energy, silliness, and a lot of words. She has to make sure all her words get out in one day. In the evenings I used TikTok as my escape. Doom scrolled any moment I had. The tipping point was Sunday night. I was so on edge, long day with my toddler and I felt like we had been going nonstop. I just wanted to look at my phone and ignore the world. But, I can’t, I have a toddler. I am good about not snapping at her, but I was watching my phone and she jumped on me. This caused my phone to fly towards me and kid me right on the bridge of my nose. Ouch, horrible, poetic justice. I moved my daughter off of me and told her to go away. I immediately felt horrible, and her feelings were so hurt. We broke down crying, I told her I was sorry and held her.

I realized that I had been trying to give my phone my full attention, and missed so many moments with my daughter. I decided right then and there I would not let my phone have the best version of me. My baby deserves that. She didn’t ask to be here.

Motherhood is hard, but not because of the lack of freedom. Because there is a little person who needs you, and they take a lot of effort to meet their needs. Since not having TikTok and Facebook anymore, I’ve noticed my irritability has gone down significantly. I get home, do some chores, my husband and I get dinner on the table, we clean up together, and then I just hung out with my kid. My kid was extra irritable today. She really needed me. I have let her bedtime routine slack. But, I asked her to lay down and then when I came to lay down with her we sang songs until she fell asleep in my arms. It’s been a good minute since I’ve just held her and not had my headphones in listening to a TikTok video. While she talked and I didn’t even hear her.

Tonight, I heard everything. We talked while she fell asleep. I tickled her arms as she fell asleep. Now she’s snoring, I’m chillin, and pouring my heart out to a bunch of girls I haven’t met. I am doing everything I can to become a better mom for my daughter.
