So, three weeks in, and there have been some issues,

none of which have kept it off the road but they are irritating:

Power tailgate - fails about 50% of the time to open from the button on the tailgate - it tries, gets about 5mm open and then flops back, same with the switch on the drivers door, seems to be much more reliable from the key fob, probably going to book this in as a fault.

Infotainment - continually forgets the sound settings - both bass/treble and "focus", not a big deal but after the last car that had Bose this one needs all the help it can get.

Bluetooth - had to do the soft reset as BT said it couldnt activate, which worked but its still very irritating after the last three cars worked flawlessly.

Windows - front drivers side constantly anti-traps, the app also says windows open when they clearly arent - theres some kid of detection fault here i reckon, was giving this one the benefit of the doubt for now in our very hot weather through drying new seals out.

I like the massage seat though, thats lovely, and when you step on the go pedal she really moves.

Need guidance on an EV rated power outlet.

Have decided to go EV, octopus initially said it would likely be about 6 weeks to get a home charging point installed so delayed picking up the car for about a month to minimise having to use public charging.

Now the grid operator wants to upgrade the house supply - we are looped - at no cost so thats fine - but its going to be at least another 12 weeks before that will happen and then time after that for the home charger.

Im lucky i have hybrid working so the car can be at home for a couple of days at a time (usual household errands still).

As a stop gap ive been looking at granny chargers - and the advice is its possible but limit it to 10 amps for safety and use an EV rated single gang outlet.

the question is can i change one double outlet in my garage to this EV rated single with no other changes?

the home supply has a 100A fuse and the wiring from the CU into the garage is about 15 years old, there will be no other concurrent consumers on the garage loop/circuit if the car is charging.

Also as it can be as simple as a faceplate swap must an electrician do the change?

thanks,

2026 Explorer EV Android based infotainment help,

Anyone have recommendations for tutorials/youtube for the latest android based infotainment system in the Explorer?

the ones ive found so far take me to the Sync based ones or, more often, the US ones in their non EV Explorer.

looking particularly for customisation options for the home screen,

thanks,

Its been emotional, but the time is now.

Quite sad about this actually but my 2019 CX5 will be looking for a new owner in the next few days.

She's almost been faultless and I was particularly proud of how she looked after me and mine in our recent hottest ever heatwave in the UK - 38 degrees outside, 19 inside while 4 up with luggage and 2 dogs at extended periods of 75mph - and the temp gauge never went beyond vertical - thats good engineering. As someone who grew up with cars from the british car industry and was used to seeing any number overheating at the side of the road in 26 degrees - cruising comfortably at 38 degrees is a revelation.

Ive visited 2 dealers about the new CX5 and both have been candid about how badly the new model has been received - by current owners in particular, they arent thrilled about the 6e either -saying the range is such a mess, the CX5 has gone down market, the CX60/70 are pushing strongly up market and the 6e drives very poorly. One dealer was even in the process of cutting his Mazda showroom in half to allow more space for his other brand.

So, its see you later for now. I loved, and still love, my CX5 but technology has moved on and Mazda managed to tick none of my boxes in the 2026 model. They could have had me for life with a good HEV.

Look after yourselves, this, like the car, has been a solid community for the last 4 years.

2019 Sport Nav+ Machine Grey signing off.
