Cost of Custom Whitening Trays in your Province?

What have you paid your Dentist for Custom Whitening Trays?

My Dentist in Nova Scotia charged me $400 for a Lower and Upper Custom Whitening Tray Set. He used his own office iTero Scan to take the 3D Digital Impression. The bill indicated a Lab Fee of $220 and I was advised that my Dentist charged a Professional Service Fee of $180. I also received 1 package containing 2 @35% Opalescence Gel Tubes.

Would a Dentist Cutting a Whitening Tray into 3 Pieces Affect Fit or Gel Leakage?

I paid $400 for Custom Made Whitening Trays. My Dentist said they needed an adjustment. He proceeded to cut the tray into 3 pieces.

Custom Whitening Trays - what is the acceptable Dental Practice Standard when one of the custom arch trays does not fit?

I am a patient in Nova Scotia , Canada looking for general dental guidance about custom whitening trays and usual practice standards that may be applicable.

I had custom upper and lower whitening trays made based on an iTero scan. The lower tray did not fit properly. At the appointment, the dentist adjusted it chair-side and cut the lower tray into three pieces.

I was later offered a replacement lower tray, but I was not offered a new scan or impression. The replacement lower tray was offered in a different material, described as Essix, while the upper tray was to remain in the original softer whitening-tray material.

My questions are:

1. If a custom whitening tray does not fit properly, is it common practice to take a new scan or impression before remaking it?

2. Is it usual for upper and lower whitening trays to be made from noticeably different materials?

3. Is Essix commonly used for whitening trays, or is it more typically used for retainers / aligner-type appliances?

4. Is there a normal clinical reason to order a replacement tray in Essix but still advise the patient to keep using the original tray that had been cut into three pieces?

5. Are there risks or downsides to using the original lower whitening tray after it was cut into three separate pieces, rather than remaking it as one continuous full-arch custom tray?

6. If an iTero scan is used for custom whitening trays, should the dentist normally review the scan and lab prescription before fabrication?

7. If a lower tray does not seat properly because of inadequate block-out of undercuts or the designed path of insertion, would that usually be addressed through a corrected lab prescription/design, a remake, a new scan/impression, or some combination of these?

8. What would a patient reasonably expect when an iTero-scan-based custom whitening tray does not fit properly?

I am looking for general dental guidance about tray fit, remakes, chair-side adjustments, tray materials, block-outs, and whether there are any documented dental resources, professional reference materials, or books I can review to better understand dental practice standards for custom whitening trays.
