Unknown Species Farming Sap from Prickly Pear Cactus - South Texas

Found on a prickly pear cactus on US/Mexico border. A very small species ~2mm. Black. I apologize for the white blowout, the conversion from raw to jpg increased image brightness.

My first notable macro shot as a complete photography novice.

This is officially my first notable photo as a complete photographer novice. I didn't own a dedicated camera my entire life until last week but I was inspired after looking at this sub and various macrophotography Youtubers for months now. Unfortunately the photo was underexposed but I tried my hand at lightroom and tried my best to salvage it. This is the result. Any tips or advice?

Is it practical to force myself to learn the basics of photography with my grandmas old cameras I was recently gifted? Minolta XG1 and Yashica Electro 35 GSN?

I was fortunate enough to have been recently gifted some cameras from my grandma that are still in working condition and in near mint condition. The lot consists of 1 Sony Cybershot DSC TX1, a Minolta XG1, a Yashica Electro 35 GSN, and a dozen rolls of 35mm film. Upon receiving these cameras, I figured that I can finally try and get into photography which is a hobby I've always been interested in but never had the money to spare for any expensive equipment. I understand that these cameras are from the 1970's-1980's but I wanted to ask if these cameras are too outdated to pick up photography as a complete beginner. Would it be better that I just save up for a modern camera instead or is there actually value in being forced to learn the "basics" because of my techologically limited gear?

Can someone recommend an entry level kit for insect photography?

Hello guys! I'm looking to get into macro-photography to document insects in my part of the world. I have 0 photography experience and would love some help on a budget kit just to get started. I'm hoping to spend no more than $700 USD. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Texas reinvention non-trad - Late July MCAT or apply next cycle?

Hey guys as stated in the title, I am a Texas non-trad who is projected to graduate with a 4.0 from a regional SMP. This program took a lot of time and attention and now that it's finally over I'm in a position where I can focus solely on MCAT for the next few months. Looking at the dates I have the option of July 11 (2 months away) or July 24th (~3 months away). This would mean I would get my MCAT score in August. Is it worth it to apply this cycle if my aim is MD? Here is my background.
