3rd time in Bangkok in the last decade. Been here a few days and I am getting the sense that things have changed. Service workers and public transit workers I have encountered are outright rude. These are young people (20ies).
At the airport, I asked an airport worker the direction to grab. She was in uniform, at attention and standing by the escalator so I assume she is open to questions. The look on her face and the barking she gave me was fucked up.
In a coffee shop, I didn’t hear my order being called out. The girl was barking in Thai. Who the fuck knows what she’s saying. She brings my coffee to my table and barks some shit at me…in Thai.
In a souvenir store, I pick out 5 items and at check out decide to only buy 4 of them and told the cashier I didn’t want one. Asshole starts barking at me in Thai. His attitude was obvious that it wasn’t “no problem”. I walked out the store without spending.
It’s been 2 days and I notice a seriously fucked up attitude with the locals. If you think this is ok or normal, you have not traveled enough. This is not ok for a location that survives on tourism. Land of Smiles will soon be Land of empty hotels and restaurants soon.
