AUGust, to save a CQC

AUG SA, A3 SA CQC & A3 M1

An lgs has had a CQC has a backup range gun for a while now and I've better trying to get it off them for a while, they finally agreed to see if they could sell it and they let me take it for what it'll cost them to get a new range AUG (the other AUG is broken, it sheared it's barrel lock & cracked it's bolt).

The gun was filthy, they had it with a regular 16" barrel in it (only the end ring extended past the handguard), so when it fired the unburnt powder/blast was hitting the handguard directly and it was somehow running without a gas piston in the gun at all.

The barrel is one of the 16" with spacers, thankfully it was in the back with the downed AUG. I've cleaned the rust off it's flash hider, put a gas piston in it, I'll have to get a new retaining pin & sling swivel for it and I might change the furniture to green.

When I dig out my rail mounted Steyr 1.5× it'll have the optic it's supposed to on it, and it'll live a better, longer life now, with the company of other AUG's.

New to me Soc Ind. Suisse Vetterli

Brought in a PS90 for a chop, wondered what the rifle in the corner without a price tag was & it followed me home. All matching, looks like an 1871. Now to get/make ammo for it.

Date code verification

Assuming I read the date BD code correctly, this would be a 2013 production right?

A familiar, but different face

The St-Etienne PA-MAS G1S, the French licensed copy of the Beretta 92FS, it shares all the positives of it's more popular and well known Italian brother.

Despite now officially being replaced by the Glock 17 in French service it marks an interesting departure, having replaced the MAC 50 and being one of the few times in the 20th century the French decided to make something that isn't immediately recognizable as a French design.

This example has it's box, manual, cleaning rod & brush, dummy barrel, loader & two additional French marked magazines.

A little bit of modern Euro surplus.

St-Etienne PA-MAS G1S 🇫🇷 A French licensed copy of the Beretta 92FS, with original box, manual, loader, cleaning rod/brush, dummy barrel & two extra French marked magazines. The former service pistol of France, replaced by the Glock 17.

Llama M82 🇪🇸 A Spanish not quite copy, but copy of the Beretta 92FS, with original box, tag, manuals & extra magazine. The former service pistol of Spain, replaced by the HK USP.

They'll also both take regular Beretta magazines, which is handy.

Stoner 63, but not quite

Robinson M96 Expeditionary, in the 20" rifle configuration, came with the lock, serialized box, manual, ×2 30 round Colt mags & ×3 20 round Colt mags. The red tag, red factory tag was still installed so presumably I'm the first outside the factory to actually fire the gun.

There are some differences, notably the charging handle being side mounted in an almost FAL style instead of top/bottom mounted like the original guns & the muzzle brake being part of the barrel, unlike the originals which had flash hiders. No bayonet lug and configured to take AR-15 magazines.

The only original part it can use is the buttstock, & maybe the rear sight, which is a shame, especially as though rare, Stoner 63 mags do pop up occassionally and a magwell that let you use them would have been feasible due to the nature of the rifle. The conversion kits in general are also between rare/non-existent.

None of this is a deal breaker, but it feels like missed potential, though seeing how intensive the system is to manufacture, I guess I'll just say we're lucky to have even had these produced at all, and luckier the M96 got the improvements the Expeditionary model included.

Amazing way to have the iconic system without paying the price of a car/down deposit on a house and still extremely happy to have added one. Need a Bren kit for it somewhere down the line. If I ever win the lottery I'll add a real Stoner 63A to keep it company.

The power of German engineering

HK needs to hurry up and release the C36, hope they rename it before it hits the market. I need my 4k polymer German rifle.

TBT TG36, built using a no barrel E parts kit, with a 15.4" CQB barrel p&w. E length gas & piston with better overall ballistics + the right handguard for the bipod, K proportions.
