Wood comes from a shelf i got a few years ago that I have been considering staining, but ive got almost zero wood working or staining experience. What kind of wood is it, and would it be possible to stain it to give it a cherry or walnut type look? Thanks!

genuine question, I've been growing my hair out for a couple months, and id like a haircut like this, but I have no idea what it's called or how I would describe it.
Just inherited a bunch of button making supplies at work. I've figured out how to use the Silver press to make 2 1/4 inch buttons, but I want to know if it's possible to make 1 1/4 inch buttons using the supplies pictured. The black button press is a Badge-a-minit bench press, and the silver press is a Badge a Matic I. Any video tutorials would be greatly appreciated!
