Parkinsons - Eye Movement

My husband who has Parkinsons w/LBD woke up today with a crossed eye. That's never happened before and it went back into place after a few minutes, so I was wondering if this is a thing. He does wear glasses and it's been awhile since his last eye checkup. He doesn't read regularly unless I draw his attention to something online or in a magazine, and most of the time he's looking down (partly due to his posture being hunched over).

Another thing that happened today (probably unrelated but never happened in the morning), he asked me where his wife was. When he does this I say, look up. He looked at me then and said, oh, of course I was just kidding. Then he headed upstairs. I asked why and he said, to see if my wife is still there.

I know this is only going to get worse over time, he only recently began sundowning. But the crossed eye was worrying and no one has mentioned it before in any of the posts I viewed. He doesn't take parkinsons meds like levodopa as he doesn't get tremors.

I know there's a change in depth perception but has anyone ever heard whether parkinsons affects the eyes in other ways?

Eyeroll Rant

Idk what season I'm in, but to my annoyance April is still around and now they've got rid of the doctor who was Amelia's resident (her name escapes me) and Jo's bff, she saves a little girl from a burning building.

Anyway, I liked her character, she seemed to be one of few who knew what she wanted to do. So now they've brought in a new character (Owen's sister) who seems to be even more out of place than Amelia.

Someone please tell me I'm close to the end of the series. 😞

My Sweetie

BabyMia looking down at her sister all triumphant! She likes to savour her snacks while her sister wolfs them down, just so she can gloat about it! Brat! 🤭

April 🫣

So I'm 3/4 through the series and I really cannot take April anymore. She is just such a whiner, and Amelia too but mostly just April. I've started to fast forward any part she comes out in cuz I just can't.

Hello?

If BabyMia appeared at your door, would you let her in? (BTW, this was taken a week ago, not during the dread hot weather - shes only gone out to do her business in the past three days!)

Going for your test 2nd time around

I recently failed 😥, still feel terrible about it and was wondering what others have done going for the second time. I have a lot of questions.

Do you get another school/instructor and do practices? (My instructor was reluctant to go further after my fail, but tbh, I always felt like he was a bit sexist and ageist anyway.) What have your experiences been in seeking a new instructor, ie, are they reluctant to take you on after you've failed the test?

Does anybody have school/instructor recommendations (East Midlands) after changing and succeeding the second time around?

You have been such a kind and supportive group, I hope there's someone who's been there or who at least can offer advice.

Shaken

I drove to the store, a mile away, forward parked between two vehicles, but perhaps too close to the one on my left. So I made my purchase, went back to the car and proceeded to reverse out.

My stupid mistake was I strapped myself in, started the car, put in reverse and then did not release the brake all the way 😲. So the car was reversing but in sudden spurts and not at all safe or proper.

So some guy approaches my window and screams, wtf are you doing! You shouldn't be driving! When he saw my face he softened and goes, are you going to be OK? I said yes, I apologised and then as I was pulling out, the car warning came on Release The Brake, which I then did and everything was OK. Except me.

My test is tomorrow and I don't know now if I can go through with it. My husband gave me some encouragement but I need to feel that confidence I had prior to the stupid mistake. I'm starting to crave that feeling that I'd have if I just cancelled it. No more test, no more stress.

Should I just give up?

Mental Slipping

My HWP (and LBD) was recently hospitalised with a UTI and came home a week later. He could walk, albeit slowly, before hospital. Now, it's been a few days and he's starting to get strength back in his legs, but mentally he's getting that sundowning effect.

Yesterday afternoon, when I picked his phone up, he snatched it from my hand and said, that's my phone! He has never snatched anything from anyone, he has always been a very grounded and loving man. I saw the look on his face and I knew instantly he was not himself and he did not recognise me. I asked him, do you know who I am? He said "mom." I told him to look at me and asked him again. His face relaxed and he said, you're my wife.

In the evening, I brought him dinner and picked the phone up again to move it and put his tray down. He said, we better bring that with us. I asked why. He said somebody could take it. I asked him where we were. He said "I don't know." I asked, are we at home? He said, "no."

I am pretty much on my own with this situation. He only has one sibling left (they're married) and they suggested we move closer to them (we live 45 minutes away by car). But they rarely visit, only text if I text them first, and never call, unless I call them first, but then it's always, oh I was just about to dial your number!

This is the biggest challenge I've ever faced in life. My family members say, do puzzles with him, but he doesn't seem interested in anything. I do talk to him as before, talk to him about our memories (he has some recall), my family at home (we live in his home country), just about anything news related as long as its uplifting.

That's my life laid bare. I'm pretty grounded, I make sure to take time to rest, an hour here and there, plus we have two small dogs, who are my sweet companions. They seem unsettled these days though. Where they used to be close to him, they avoid him and run to me all the time now.

Sending prayers out to all of you who can relate, who feel the heaviness of their burden, who plow on because your loved one only has you. I know everybody has their own challenges, and in many small ways I'm blessed.

Moody Girl

BabyMia's mad at me. Either that or someone's kicked a BabyMia-shaped hole in the wall!

Pessimistic Instructor

I'm having my test in two weeks, have had on and off lessons for a year. My problem is my instructor's nerves! He's excitable and he says with every lesson, you have to practice every day. (Well that has not been possible because I haven't had an available driving supervisor for about a month.)

Now, as we get closer to the test he puts on the satnav and then shouts over it (in a loud voice, as I drive) check mirrors! Speed up! Slow slow slow! And "did you hear the instruction? Which exit?! So what lane do you need. "

I don't let it get to me, but today he goes, "you won't be ready in two weeks. " I feel like he's either dooming me to fail or hinting that he won't take me to the test. I told him I am confident that I will be ready on the day and until then, I will practice my driving and maneuvers.

Still that little voice of doubt does creep up in me, where I think, what if?

Thank you for hearing me.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a satnav with lane guidance? I know for the purpose of learning to follow roadsigns you shouldn't depend on it, but I think it would be helpful to have after passing the test.

Either there is a mess somewhere in this house I'll need to clean up or someone has fallen off the wagon again (this girl is an RPE - recovering poop eater).
