Does anyone have experience with those mesh head things to stop your dog from foraging or advice on where to find a small muzzle for a small dog?

Does anyone have experience with those mesh head things to stop your dog from foraging or advice on where to find a small muzzle for a small dog?

Hi!

Just to preface this I am actively training my dog not to eat stuff from the ground but until he is bullet proof I would like to use a tool to prevent him from doing so.

He is a havanese (around 6kg) so his face is quite small and I couldn't find a good fitting one in my surroundings so I did some research and found this? Not sure if it is good or not. I am worried he can't sniff or breathe properly. Does anyone have experience with this?

Or maybe someone knows where to get a small muzzle for a havanese sized dog? Preferably European seller?

Edit: he doesn't eat poop, only food items or dead animals.

Does anyone have experience with those mesh head things to stop your dog from foreging

Hi!

Just to preface this I am actively training my dog not to eat stuff from the ground but until he is bullet proof I would like to use a tool to prevent him from doing so. Also, side note when he is vested he doesn't do it. It's really only an issue in his free time.

Also he is so low to the ground that it's so hard to sometimes distinguish between him sniffing and eating. Plus since his mouth is so small getting anything out is impossible. Drop or trade works very well when it's not edible but as soon as he finds something slightly edible nothing is more rewarding than what he found.

Getting my baby was the best decision I ever made

My baby is almost 10 months old now and I can already not imagine my life without him. I am training him to become my Service Dog and he is doing so amazingly, he is so eager to learn and be by my side. Also outside of training he is the sweetest little bean ever. He loves to cuddle and play and on bad days when my disability is kicking he is also just super content to cuddle with me and stick close by me to make me feel better. I have genuinely never experienced a love like this for another living being. He is truly my soul dog and I cannot be any happier to have him.

Enjoy these two pictures I took of him during our vacation to Portugal 🥰

Anyone been to Raum with crutches?

Hi!

I am planning to go to Raum this Saturday for Pax but a couple of days ago I sprained my ankle pretty badly and am using crutches. Does anyone have experience going to a club (maybe even Raum) with crutches?

I am a bit scared as it's probably crowded and I don't want to fall but I really want to go out too. Currently trying to decide if i should go or not. If anyone has good tips please let me know!

Also I am not sure if i can stand in line for a long time does raum have a disability entrance? How are they with such requests?

Thank you :)

Harnesses that don't Matt fur?

Hi!

I have my boy in long hair and I have noticed that his harness is making his fur at the armpits very matted. I was wondering if anyone who also keeps the hair long has experience with a harness brand/type that matts the fur a bit less?

Thank you! :)

An ADI organization is using Poodle x Belgian Malinoise mix

*mixes

Hi everyone,

This is more of a rant than anything else but I am a big opponent against the whole ADI system for various reasons that I am too lazy to type up now but I saw something that made my opinion even stronger.

I have found out that an ADI accredited organization in my country are specifically breeding and using poodle x Malinoise mixes for service dogs for people with psychiatric illnesses and call it ethically breed high quality dogs who are well fit for the work. Besides the contradiction that most breed mixes are not able to be ethically breed due to the lack of breeding standard how can they claim that these dogs are well fit for adults with psychiatric illness considering the characteristics of a Malinoise and the unpredictability of the mix. Wild.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? Not trying to bash anyone who does have such a mix from this organization as I am not judging the individual but the organization.

Edit: also something i just thought of why do these organizations keep trying to reinvent the wheel when there are already a bunch of breeds well proofen for service work?

Thoughts pls!

Hi everyone,

A couple of months a go I had a pregnancy scare. At the time I was dissociating the problem away but now I have enough space in my mind to process what happened.

My period was late by two weeks so I took a test (picture attached). It looked positive to me so I went to get my blood drawn a couple of days later. I had a HCG hormone level of 11 and a day after my blood was drawn I got a very heavy period. Does this mean I was actually pregnant and miscarried? I know no one can tell me for sure but I would appreciate to hear your thoughts on how likely it was that I was actually pregnant just to process what happened.

It's probably important to note that becoming pregnant is my worst fear. I am disabled and am not able to take care of a child at all. I am thinking of getting sterilized too.

Neutering male small breed SDiT at 7 month of age due to overconfidence

Hi everyone!

I have a havanese and my SD school requires the dogs to be neutered in order to be certified (I am not in the US). While my baby is still very much a puppy and no where near certification my trainer brought up neutering soon as he's very dog focused, confident and did recently start to mark in the house (only once and I introduced appropriate measurements so it will not become a habit). She told me that I should think about it as this will make training significantly easier in the long run. He's a very confident dog who recovers quickly so I am not worried that he would become anxious from neutering besides I will try the hormone transplant first before cutting his testicles. However, I am worried about joint development. I am aware of the recent study that found small dog breeds mostly have no issue being neutered early but somehow I have a weird feeling as he still needs to develop no?

What is your opinion on this? Maybe someone has experience neutering their small dog early for similar reasons?

Don't worry I do have a vet appointment coming up where I discuss this with my vet.

The study :(https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/veterinary-science/articles/10.3389/fvets.2020.00388/full)

Edit: he does not have any behavioral issues as of yet but my trainer worries that due to his over "male" confidence it might become an issue in the future.

Edit 2: why do people keep down voting me I am just trying to make an informed decision and appreciate everybodies insights. Obviously I will listen to my vet but I also don't want to rush into anything hence why I asked here😭

Neutering at 7 month of age?

Hi everyone!

I am currently trying to figure out when to neuter. My trainer suggests neutering now to prevent behavior issues (he doesn't have any as of yet but he did lift his leg inside the house once). I know of a study recently done that found small breeds like Maltese and shih Tzus don't have any negative side effects from neutering from 6 months on. But sadly this study didn't include havanese but since havanese is somewhat related to Maltese I assume it's probably the same? What has been your experience with it?

I also am planning to try out the implant first before actual neutering.

I snapped at my pole teacher today and I feel horrible about it

Context: I recently switched studios since my old studio changed its schedule and I could no longer attend most classes. This really broke my heart as I really love that studio and really hate this new one but there is no other option in my city. I have been pole dancing for a year now though I had to take a three month break due to an injury. I am taking beginners classes (level 1). I would say I am pretty strong as I can do most tricks immediately. However inverting I really can't do yet.

Now to the event it's my 5 class in this new studio and it's my third class with this specific teacher (I am trying to avoid her as her classes always really focused on inverting which sucks for me, but somehow the other teachers keep getting sick and she is their replacement. She is very nice though).

Anyways I was very excited for today's class as I was having a really rough day and needed a little pick me up. So I get to class and see her. No biggie maybe her class will be different today. Turns out it was not different. It was all about inverting (chopper, crusevix and butterfly) no other movements were practiced except at the last 5 minutes of free time. On top of that I was the only one out of 16 people, not being able to invert so I guess she didn't see the need to adjust the class. Sucks but okay. So she goes around the class helping people and she gets to the corner of where I was and I am not proud of it but when I asked her about alternative movements for me since I can't invert I kind of snapped at her being annoyed that i will not really be able to participate in any of the class due to my inability to invert. I recognized my tone and immediately apologized. It was just my tone that was rude but still I feel embarrassed. She showed me a couple of ground moves that I could do but they didn't end up working out for me as I was too upset at myself for being rude and embarrassed that I was the only one in the class not being able to invert. Even a girl who was for the first time at pole could invert. Anyways I started silently crying shortly after and left the room for a bit. The rest of the class I spend practicing movements from different classes I have taken before. I feel like an ass and will probably cry myself to sleep tonight out of sheer embarrassment for being rude, unable to invert and for crying in front of the teacher.

My trainer is on vacation and I need advise on puppy pee marking

Hi everyone!

As mentioned in the title my SD trainer is on vacation and will only return in two weeks so I can't ask her my current question so I thought I'll ask here.

To preface I only had female dogs so far so I am in a bit of new territory with my 6 month old male puppy. Yesterday he started lifting his leg to mark on walks. His regular pees he still takes squatting down but when he sniffs something nice he started to mark it by lifting his leg up. Is this something I need to correct? I know marking is natural behavior but I don't know what to do to teach him that he's only allowed to mark on walks and nowhere else. For context he hasn't marked inside and is pretty good with potty training sometimes he still has an accident but nothing major. I just want to prevent him from developing a bad habit of marking things he shouldn't.

Maybe i am overthinking it. How did you all with male dogs manage this?

How did you discourage window barking?

Hi everyone!

My little Otis (6 Month old havanese) has a small habit of barking outside the window. He doesn't do it a lot and usually we can stop it by correcting him but sometimes this doesn't work. Additionally this is the only real thing we are struggling with in terms of leaving him home alone. He doesn't have separation anxiety (according to my trainer) he just likes to bark outside the window and when he is alone there is no one to stop him from doing so. Additionally once he starts it seems to me he is really enjoying it so he rewards himself. How did you manage this?

Some details: we have curtains but they are kinda see through and we currently can't change them. I am thinking about putting a play pen barrier in front of the windows when we are gone so he can't go as close to the windows anymore. I have also gotten the recommendation to play some music for him while we are gone which we will start with. Sadly all of our rooms have big windows so putting him in a room without is not an option.

What other things do you do or did you do for similar issues?

Hi!

I am thinking of doing a career switch but I have ADHD and am thinking of starting ADHD meds to make life a bit easier. I am able to function without them though. But the information I find online on this topic is conflicting.

Are you allowed to take stimulant or non-stimulant ADHD medication as flight attendant for a European airline like KLM, Lufthansa, etc.? Or are you considered not fit to fly?

Thank you!!
