Why is my SORaindrops stem’s shriveling?

I’ve had these for a little over a month. I accidentally overwatered them, but I let them dry out for longer than a month straight, and just watered them yesterday.

They get bright indirect to direct light everyday.

I can’t figure out why some of the stems are shriveling. There is new growth, and everything but for some reason some stems are still turning brown and black.

Can anyone help 😭

new growth is smaller than prepurchase growth?

hi

I purchased my VFT two weeks ago, and it’s been chilling. It has a tray for distilled water. It gets direct 6000k light from two grow lights for 12+ hours a day. I haven’t fed it any bugs.

As it produces more traps, I’ve noticed they are getting shorter and more raised. However the newer traps are more red, so it’s getting more enough light. I’ve never let the water run out.

Also the traps aren’t like dying…? A couple old ones are in rough shape (closed & brown teeth) but only one is blackening and it’s been dying so slowly. Is that normal?

I’ve heard this while trap shortening thing is normal, but I figured I’d post here just for confirmation I’m not killing my plant.

why does my cactus have veins

Hello. I got this Prickly Pear (at least that’s what I think it is) like 3 weeks ago, and it’s been great.

I watered it 18 days ago. It sits next to or under/near 2 grow lights for 12+ hours, which has 6000k lighting. And it has buds and new growth.

But why does it have these bright green veins/patches? Is that a good thing…? I find it kind of hard to believe that it needs MORE light. I’ve searched online and I can’t find anything. Does it need water? I read they need more during the growing season, but I thought monthly was good.

what do you guys think?

How to keep your novel outline comprehensive when there is SO MUCH?

Hello! Working on my novel has been going great. I’m currently outlining the 2nd draft and almost done.

However I’ve run into the same problem time and time again where there is so much detail and things to keep track of (foreshadowing, personalities, symbols, arcs, relationships, injuries, etc) that I forget or have a hard time outlining becuase of it. For reference I have five POVs, and seven character arcs, it’s a lot…but it’s what makes the story so good (at least to me)

I have a whole spreadsheet dedicated to it, but it’s gotten so long that it’s hard to compare and bounce back between chapters to check for consistency and just in general flow. I do have a FULL outline tab, and then individual character outline tabs, which can be helpful but I still find it hard to keep track of everything. I always end up forgetting something.

Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or tips around combating this issue?

First Venus fly trap!

Okay technically it’s my second becuase I killed my first one when I was a kid. But it’s nice to pretend.

Repotted it in a bigger pot and checked the roots for a baggy. There wasn’t one. I was actually surprised by the root system, it looks like a weird sponge.

I watered with distilled water and clipped off any black or blackening traps. Now we wait… I guess?

It’s sitting under a grow light right now becuase it’s rainy outside, but in the summer I plan to have it by my window where it will get lots of sunlight.

Any tips are appreciated as always. I’m so excited!

Crispy tips and small flowers on peace lily?

Hey everyone! I bought my mom a peace lily for mother’s day, and so far it’s been doing great.

However, I’ve noticed that the new flowers are smaller than previous, and the tips of the leaves are turning yellow and crispy. I’m wondering if there anything we can do to help it.

For context, this lily sits in a small north east facing window, where the sun is rarely ever direct and is usually just bright indirect light (to my knowledge). It’s still in the same pot we bought it from, an we haven’t given it any fertilizer.

I’m thinking a culprit could be under-watering. I always check it and put water in it when I notice it seems low, but I’m not sure if my mom keeps an eye on it. Another culprit could be a lack of humidity. It’s becoming summer here, so we have our air conditioners in. However the plant sits directly above our kitchen sink, not sure if that makes a difference.

Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help it! Thanks 🙏🏻

Can well water be used to water VFT?

Hello! I’ve been interested in getting a Venus fly trap for awhile, and have been poking around this subreddit.

From what I’ve seen, Venus fly traps are pretty picky when it comes to what’s in the water. I see people using distilled water or rainwater, but I’m also wondering if well water would work? I’m not sure what minerals are bad for vft, I know town water with chlorine isn’t good, but since ours is from a drilled well, I wasn’t sure if it was any different.

I uploaded a picture of our well water results form 2021.

It probably won’t work but I thought I’d ask…

Thanks!

Tips on writing the middle of your story?

Hello!

I’m currently outlining the second draft of my novel using Save The Cat Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody.

I’m really struggling with creating the middle part of my novel to be as impactful as the beginning and end. Once I break into ACT II, I feel as if the ‘Fun & Games’ section of it falls flat in intensity, conflict, etc.

I know what I want to do, or the vibe I’m going for. I have the ending so perfect. There are just so many friendships/characters to develop, endings to set up, and information to share that it feels impossible to do it all. I’m also just struggling to come up with ideas for minor conflict in the first place, or even just how to slowly develop relationships and characters over time.

Does anyone have any advice?
