I’m from the UK M33. I’m almost conversational level but quite slow, looking for anyone in a similar position who would like to have a fellow learner to practice with and just chat over coffee and have a laugh near the 10th arr.
Interested in art, subculture, politics, life in Paris as a migrant etc.
I don't want to start a war here. but...
Shawarma in London tastes really different to me. I'm not saying it's worse in Paris, but I personally much prefer it in the UK.
I'd love to know what others think. Most people probably love what they've grown up on but I'm wondering if others notice a difference and why that might be?
I'm sure someone is going to say that the Paris version is more authentic which I'm not going to try to argue with, please excuse any ignorance about all the differences between food from Turkiye, Lebanon, etc.
In London there seem to be more pickles, more veg, more spices (often cloves etc.) and often Tahini.
I'm talking about places like Ranoush Juice or E. Mono.
This will probably annoy some people but it's also crispier. I've ordered Shawarma in Paris and the chicken doesn't have that freshly-carved-off-the-spit texture.

Shouldn't I be higher?
My otherwise good quality parasol has a loose middle connecting part. It sits on a wonk and wobbles a lot. I've tried drilling inside and inserting some long metal rods to reinforce it but it had no effect.
Are there any solutions to this? The actual umbrella part of it works perfectly and was from John Lewis so I would like to fix rather than replace if possible.

Now I’m learning French and I can’t find anyone who isn’t just reading from a text book.
I’d love to find someone dynamic who actually has an interesting immersive style of teaching.
Has anybody got a preply tutor they can recommend?
