Fire Emblem Cuts

Fire Emblem Cuts

Excluding the Echo Fighters, the most likely Fire Emblem fighters to get cut in a future entry are Roy and Corrin (funnily enough being the two Fire Emblem DLC fighters in Smash 4). I'll start with Roy because he has the most going against him.
Roy's own game is nearly 25 years old and still remains Japan exclusive to this day. He is a semi-clone of Marth, so having a unique moveset can't save him. In fact, that and both of them having Echo Fighters only contributed to the "too many Marths" stigma fans have towards the FE representation in Smash. And finally, he has been cut before in Brawl, so the precedent of him being lower priority was already set. Onto Corrin, Fire Emblem Fates is one of the most divisive games in the FE fanbase. Corrin themself isn't a very popular character either given their lack of a personality in Fates. While Corrin's moveset is unique, it doesn't differ too much from other FE characters as compared to characters like Robin and Byleth, who have more unique movesets than Corrin. When people defend Corrin they always ignore Corrin having your usual down b counter coupled with generic sword swinging attacks.

Sakurai Biases

While maybe Sakurai doesn't want to improve Mario just because he appeared since the first game, I have a theory that the issues with Sonic's moveset is that he was added at the last minute and that Sakurai doesn't know much about Sonic, I don't remember him mentioning any Sonic games on his YouTube channel videos.

Sonic is so funny to me because he feels like a character Sakurai personally didn't want to add and was like "ugh, fine..." and threw something together.

Tbh Mario’s down-b move could’ve been changed with Smash Ultimate, but I’m not sure what kind of move would actually be useful for his move set.

With Sonic, Sega probably limits what they can do with the character, keeping the references close to Sonic 1 and 2 on Genesis.

Gameboy Advance

The GBA is such a weird system in retrospect because it had 3 Fire Emblem games (before Awakening made it mainstream), 3 F-Zero games, 1 new Zelda game that didn't release until after the DS and not a single new Mario Platformer.

Considering how short the lifespan of the GBA actually was it would make sense if most of these games were made due to there lower production cost along with not distracting the more impressive DS titles that would release later.

NSO Profile Icons

I forgot Mewtwo had an NSO icon for Scarlet and Violet) For Pokémon Trainer, I counted any kind of Pokémon protagonist because Smash treats them as a general representative of the player characters in the Pokémon series. The Pikmin icons are available by default on the Switch 1, however the Olimar one is only available by default on Switch 2.

Buffs and Nerfs

Given that it's been nearly five years since they stopped balance patches and a good amount of the game has been "solved", now's as good a time as any to objectively see which characters got buffed or nerfed in the transition to Ultimate.

Smash Announers

I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't want Xander Mobus to return as the announcer for Smash 6. No disrespect to him, but I would rather hear a new guy take the role as the announcer for a new game. Every Smash game prior to Ultimate had their own announcers, which was a little thing that did help to making the games feel like a new experience. Ultimate bringing back Xander Mobus and recycling many of his voice clips from Smash 4 just added onto Ultimate feeling like "Smash 4.5" in many aspects (reused Victory Themes dating back from Brawl is another pet peeve of mine) (which I know Ultimate was built off of Smash 4, but that doesn't mean you have to keep everything the original gams did).

Smash Bros Newcomer Ratios

When looking at the new additions of previous Smash games, unsurprisingly the base roster additions are predominantly from first/second party (Nintendo) series while the DLC additions are predominantly from third party series. It makes sense since Nintendo has to pay fees to include third parties, so it is a smarter investment to have more of those characters be paid DLC so they make money off of them. Plus, fans are more willing to pay for a third party character than a first or second party given that nature and usually their reveals see more hype than from most Nintendo character reveals.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (Volume 2)

Would you guys buy it if it were real? I would be beyond excited if Square was based enough to do this. I’m already excited about FF Resonance!

A bit of a shame Ryu was leaked, I think this was the only time we had three characters dropping at once, then again it was two veterans and a newcomer.

About some Ultimate Newcomers

The fighter numbers aren't indicative of when each character was developed into the Smash series, purely when they were first known about to the public. We've already gotten a hint from Smash Ultimate's project plan suggesting Ridley wasn't originally considered to be in Ultimate seeing as he was used as a spirit to illustrate the idea of the mechanic.

Smash Games ranked by Best Casual Experience

Brawl has the best causal experience out of any Smash Bros. game by far. It being much slower paced compared to other entries makes it easier to get into for new players plus it has a smorgasbord of other fun modes to play if you start getting tired of standard versus matches.

I ranked 64 as the lowest because as while Melee is often seen as the most competitive game of the bunch, it does have other modes in it like Brawl to satisfy more casual players. 64 would end up feeling dated to a lot of players given its the first Smash game and the series has evolved a lot since then.

The lack of side specials, pummels, up throws and down throw would definitely throw people off more familiar with the series. As for the other modes, all you have are 1P Mode (which is the same matches everytime unlike future entries), Break the Targets, and Board the Platforms.

Mario Roster for Smash 6

I could see this being the possible Mario series roster for Smash 6. Yeah, the newcomers are pretty safe all things considered and it stayed at 9 characters total, but there does need to be a limit since we do have Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario series here with close ties to Mario. Pauline is a bit in the gray area of whether she should be considered a "Mario" or "Donkey Kong" character, but I feel her return to stardom in Super Mario Odyssey and fitting Smash's tradition of adding at least two new Mario characters should be preserved.

Smash Bros Challenge: Make it so that each series can only have one fighter from each game.

I didn't include any series with only one fighter already for brevity. (Sorry franchises with only one rep) Some series got away with no losses at all. I counted transtormation characters separately as it would be cheating to have them together, so Charizard is on its own like Smash 4 and solo Pyra follows suit. I didn't include the Miis because it's just different archetypes for the same avatar characters. Mario was easily the hardest to do this for with how Melee introduced both Peach and Bowser and how that makes choices for later games look weird. Looking at this you’ll realize that Brawl is the only game to not give us a true Mario Newcomer. Yeah sure Wario was added but he has his own series icon with the W and not the Mushroom and there’s no second Wario rep so unfortunately he’s left out. I went with Bowser in the end to have gaming's most recognizable villain in the roster and have Daisy in Ultimate to still have Peach's moveset in there. I thought this would be a fun challenge.

30 Character Smash Reboot Roster

Was inspired by others to make my own 30 character Smash Roster (organized similar to Brawl) but with the last 5 characters being different options. Bigger doesn’t always mean better and there would always be hypothetical DLC but I wanted to keep things simple. You cannot appeal to everyone so you might as well appeal to yourself, plus these rosters made me realize I prefer minimalist rosters over maximalist rosters. AMA. I’d be happy to answer any and all question.
