My husband and I will be visiting in two weeks and looking for volunteer opportunities.

We always like to volunteer when we travel - mostly as dog walkers for local shelters and rescues or helping with invasive plant removals. Does anyone have any leads? The SPCA shelter looks like they require residency to be a volunteer.

Just want to see if we can help while visiting!

Dear Neighbor at Commercial St Dunks around 7:50am today,

I was walking out, about to cross the drive through lane and saw you in your car, moving forward. I stopped and waved you on, verbally saying “go on”. It’s a blind spot for both cars and pedestrians, wrapping the corner of that building.

Your response of “really?! You bitch” before whipping out onto Commercial Street was a weird reaction.

You should talk with someone about your anger issues, if you’re going to name-call someone for stopping when you’re moving your car towards them.

Have the week you deserve!

My dog recently passed and was beloved in my neighborhood. So I made a little memorial rock garden for him, sharing little facts about our boy with the neighbors.

It was such a cathartic way to process grief and look back on a good life lived.

He loved hiking to waterfalls. He loved visiting pet stores to make friends with the critters. Was skunked three times. Loved tall grass. Had a best friend named Augie. He was my peanut.

Not a grief post, I promise! I miss him, but loved this project and wanted to share.

My little old man being swaddled like a giant baby

Bubba, AKA Bubb-ito when he was swaddled this. I would pretend to build my burrito order while tucking and wrapping, then say “ BUBBITO, YOU LOOK SO YUMMY”. And then this posh little stinker would sigh and literally roll his eyes at me while I’d pretend to take nibbles. Second photo captures him perfectly.

I found this ring while tilling up my garden. Any chance folks here could help identify the maker/tell me if this is a knockoff?

Location: Boston area, dense suburb. Home was built in 1955, has been in my husband’s family the entire time. No one in the family recognizes it and doubts any grandparent would have worn it.

Thanks for any insight!

I’m finally digging up my crappy hell strip after ignoring it for 10 years and I find what can only be “an old Italian man’s pinky ring, lost whilst gardening”.

I have texts into my husband’s dad and aunt, to see if they recall Grandpa Al ever losing a diamond studded gold pinky ring. Stay tuned on this developing story.

PS - thank you to this community for giving me hell strip inspiration planting ideas a couple years ago. I’m finally executing upon many great suggestions from you kind folks.

Edit: I love that this post inspired so many threads that involve finding bones of questionable origin in gardens/lawns. We’re all a bunch of amateur archaeologists!

Edit 2: My FIL doesn’t recognize this and confirmed that Grandpa had “giant ass baseball” hands, so this wouldn’t have fit him. We’re awaiting word back from aunties!

[MA USA] seeking help with a 3D figure of my dog

The end result: I want to make a concrete memorial lawn statue of my dog and need a base statue to make a mold from. I’m not well-versed in 3D printing, but I believe I’m looking for something with minimal infill, approximately 20-24” in height. Color wouldn’t matter, since it’d just be used as a base for mold-casting. I think I’d have the skills to create the render/STL. Also recognize that this is a huge piece for most entry/mid-level printers.

Thanks in advance for any guidance, trying to pull this together as a gift for my husband. We’re both wrecks from losing our Bubba and I think this project will be healing for us.

Included a photo, for the dog tax.

I made a wayfinding sign of my favorite fictional places.

- Maria’s Island - Practical Magic (book/movie)
- Amity Island - Jaws (book/movie)
- Stars Hollow - Gilmore Girls (TV show)
- The Upside Down House - Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (book)
- Pemberley - Pride & Prejudice (book/movie)
- Ankh Morpork - Discworld (book)
- The Shire - Hobbit/Lord of the Rings (book/movie)
- Magrathea- Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (book/movie)
- Hyrule - Legend of Zelda (video game)

I approximated their distance from my house to similar locations (ie: Ankh Morpork to London, Shire to New Zealand).

Made flowers from sea glass, jingle shells, and pottery shards that I’ve collected since I was a kid. I tried to use some of my all-time favorite pieces, including a fluted stopper (made an AMAZING solo flower), all my yellow pottery pieces, a special grey piece. A lovely small heart-shaped pottery piece.

I don’t give a sh*t if everything goes wrong on my wedding day - this went so perfectly that I’m legitimately emotional over it.

Should I add some eucalyptus in as a green filler? Might adjust the little loopedy-doo piece to be less loopedy-doo.
