Beauty supply stores

What beauty supply stores do you guys recommend in Rogers Park or Edgewater? My hometown had a Sally Beauty a 5 minute drive from my house. I would buy all my hair dye supplies from there for an affordable price.

The Vienna Inn: Hotel Hell

Everyone always talks about Juniper Hill Inn when we discuss the worst Hotel Hell owners but Robert seemingly accepted change by the end of the episode. However, you can’t say the same for Lisa and Jonathan of Vienna Inn. They are debatably the worst and most disturbing owners of the series, even more than kooky boiled burger Karan and the airheaded Calumet Inn sisters. While Robert and Ari were pompous snobs, Jonathan and Lisa were outwardly manipulative and creepy. “We’re very friendly people,” Jonathan says regarding the swingers rumors. The way that Lisa addresses the staff (in front of guests) is demeaning and inappropriate. Justifying making your staff pay $300 for those tacky uniforms and quipping it “reminds them to not gain weight”?? Don’t even get me started on her suggestive comments towards Gordon, the constant crocodile tears, and the cutaway where her employee rubs her feet. They were incredibly lucky to have such loyal staff despite not being paid on time. By the end of the episode, Lisa is extremely ungrateful and unwelcoming to all the improvements to the hotel. I’m surprised this was not a two-part episode because I was intrigued. This is the only Hotel Hell episode without a gratifying ending. Hell, even Brian of the Beachfront Inn dropped the chicken caesar and pulled his head out his ass after a few months. Lisa and Jonathan genuinely did not deserve Gordon’s help.

Edit: Recently found out that Jonathan passed very recently, rest in peace to him.

weirdly gross moments from HH or KN?

any weirdly gross moments from Kitchen Nightmares or Hotel Hell that stand out to you? besides the usual moldy food or dead mice

  1. The Old Neighbourhood (KN): the funky old shoes under the booth, thermometers stuck inside the tile walls, canned spray coating on the steaks before touching the grill

  2. Town’s Inn (HH): the assistant patching up holes in the wall with BUSINESS CARDS, sponges, and a shitty coat of paint. also the boiled BURGERS!

Frank from Kindred

I’m doing a KN rewatch and just watched this episode. Holy shit! Frank is one of the WORST chefs on this entire show. He’s up there with Joe from Mill Street, the Culinary Gangster from Bask 46, Sebastian from Sebastian’s. What an absolute dipshit. He clearly did not give a single damn about Caroline and was taking advantage of her weakness. Anyone else also got sick when he kept coughing, scratching his balls, and just working around the kitchen with sweat drenched all over his shirt?? The audacity for him to make jokes about the rat shit in the kitchen. He was apathetic about the likelihood of making guests sick from the state of that kitchen.

Looking for Chicago Shawols (Chiwols!)

Hi everyone!! I (25F) just moved to Northside Chicago from South Florida and I know that there are a lot more Shawols in Chicago. I’m looking to make some Chiwol friends who can geek out over SHINee with me and a group of concert buddies (now that Taemin is coming to our city)! Some other groups I like are Red Velvet (also ult), Twice, EXO, TVXQ, NCT, Aespa, TXT, Loona. I mainly like 2nd/3rd gen. I also went to Keyland in Chicago last year if anyone happened to be there. :)

Should I take the bus or redline at 10:30pm from Streeterville?

I recently got hired for a job down in Streeterville. Some of these shifts run as late as 10:30pm so I have the option of taking the northbound 147 bus or the Howard red line from the Grand station a couple of nights a week. My concern is taking CTA alone at night as a short asian woman. I’m 5’1” and I understand that I look pretty vulnerable. Is it less dicey to take the bus at night versus the Howard red line? If they’re both lateral, are there any precautions I should take?

How do I park in this spot??

I have this assigned garage spot at my apartment. The only problem is that it is squished between the wall and this giant pole. A couple of feet directly behind my spot, are also two other parking spots. How do I park here without scraping my car’s paint everytime??

Local cafes/restaurants/retail hiring right now?

I have a substitute job lined up but obviously the schools don’t open until late August. Does anyone have any leads on some local restaurants/cafes/retail stores urgently hiring for part-time hours? I have 5 years of serving experience and 1 year of front desk. Thank you

apartment not cleaned at all?

my girlfriend and i just moved to our Edgewater apartment on 7/6. we live in a building right on Kenmore. our lease started back on 6/15. i’m grateful to have any sort of housing in chicago right now but it looks like our apartment wasn’t cleaned even a little bit before we started moving in. when we arrived to the place after receiving our keys, the maintenance men were still inside our apartment. as we got settled in, i started to notice the imperfections. i’m aware that chicago apartments are usually old buildings. we always deep clean every unit we move into before settling in. however, the state of the bathroom and kitchen was terrible. the cabinets were sticky and dusty on the inside and outside. the kitchen drawer was broken. the bathroom door does not even close all the way because of the wood rot on top of it. the water inside our toilet tank was brown. a dead roach inside the cabinet. the bathtub and stovetop had stains that we could not even remove. i noticed how many command hooks and contact paper were left behind by the old tenant. it looks like the past tenant didn’t even attempt to clean anything as well. is this typical for any privately owned apartments in chicago? has anyone else arrived to a new place just to find it not cleaned at all?

Part time jobs in Edgewater or nearby?

Hi! I just moved to Edgewater this week. Does anyone know of any places (restaurants, coffee shops, retail) around the area that are hiring at the moment? I do have a Sub SECA job lined up but obviously the schools do not open until late August again. I am planning on walking around my neighborhood looking for signs regardless.

Interview for specialty

The Sage AI assistant scheduled me for a phone interview for specialty (beer, wine, cheese) at Whole Foods next week. What are the kinds of questions I should be expecting? I have a little over 4 years of serving experience and am looking to transition into something less intense and just part-time. I just want to make sure I’ve got this interview in the bag.

What are some affordable thrift stores for furniture?

We are moving to Edgewater this summer! Facebook marketplace is definitely going to be our best friend when we furnish our apartment. However, can any locals recommend me some stores for cheaper secondhand furniture?

Annual rate

Does anyone know why it says my annual rate is $53213? I’m only a SUB Seca so we make 28.23 and I’m assuming we only have jobs available on the days that kids attend school. And I know there is only 176 instructional days per school year.

Local grocery stores

Hi everyone. My gf and I will be moving to Edgewater this summer and we just got approved for an apartment on Kenmore. I was wondering where locals usually do their grocery shopping? I saw a Whole Foods and Aldi pretty close to us but wanted to see if anyone knows of other local grocers and farmers markets. Thanks!
