How many people started their homelab journey from a DNS server?

I am curious to see how many people started their homelab journey from a DNS server because that is where me and alot of people I know with a homelab started from. If you did not start from a DNS, then what did you start with?

How can I avoid double netting?

so i have my isp router and now i have gottne my own router (mikrotik running router os 7). Now how can i make the router i got as the primary router. Because i dont know if i should use OSPF v2 or bridge both the ports on the routers which is simpler but that alone i think will cause a double netting issue.

Antinatalism is very simple in terms of logic yet people find it hard to understand.

The way I see it is this: if you are never born, you can never suffer. People often respond by saying that life contains both good and bad experiences. That is true, but nonexistence means neither experiencing the bad nor missing the good. Avoiding suffering could be considered a good thing, while never experiencing happiness might seem bad. However, someone who never exists cannot feel deprived of those good experiences, because there is no person there to experience that loss.

From nothing to something

It started from a raspberry pi 4B connected to a switch acting as a DNS server. Now I have a network wide file server using SMB, VPN server using PI-VPN, media server using jellyfin, 2 DNS servers and one acts as a failover because both DNS servers in the DHCP scope are locally hosted and an intranet web dashboard showing both server statistics using agents made using python.

what other services can I run in my homellab?

I currently have these services running

1 - pi-hole (backup DNS)

2 - adguard home (primary DNS)

3 - jellyfin (media server)

4 - pi-vpn (vpn server)

5 - file server using SMB

6 - intranet dashboard showing system stats for all servers in lab

I have 2 servers in the lab which are a raspberry pi 4B and a pc running debian trixie, 4 cores 4 threads 16 gigs of RAM.
