Bringing own table decor

Wondering if anyone has brought their own table decor for their wedding at a secrets/dreams and how did it go? How did you bring it? Did you ship it ahead of time or check a luggage bag?

Long story short we got the decor quote from the resort today and it was $1200 for two tables (we have 20 guests total) for some flameless candles, table runner and vases. I looked at that quote and said no way I can put this together for WAY cheaper.

Either way did the resorts give you any push back on bringing your own decor? Did you have an extremely limited time to set up? Just trying to figure things out ahead of time! We’re getting married at secrets Bahia Mita in December 2026. Photo for reference of what they sent. Second photo with the eucalyptus is what I’m going to try and diy with the addition of flameless candles because the cost of some string lights is another story 🥴

Secrets Bahia Mita

I was wondering if anyone else ever found themselves in this dilemma. We picked the resort based on quality, comfort and the wedding package seemed to be fantastic. Especially for a couple who are on a stricter budget. Our wedding and travel budget was approximately $10k.

Now that we are in the midst of wedding planning we’re getting killed financially on add ons and other items. For example we get a photographer for the ceremony alone and for the cocktail hour. An additional 3 hours was $1300. The DJ is $1500 for 3 hours and we are officially MAXED OUT financially on this wedding. Adding lights, dance floor and some decor for the tables would bring us closer to a budget of $18000 which we just don’t have.

My question is, has anyone gotten just the base package with no additional add ons? How did your wedding look? I want to avoid it looking “empty” but we’re just so maxed out it’s hard to justify spending $1000k on a dance floor.

This place is just price grabbing at this point.

We did it!

For context our wedding date is December of this year however as it is in a different country we needed to elope in the U.S. so we decided to take the plunge and elope in RMNP. Instead of solely signing paperwork we wanted to make it special for the two of us while we wait to celebrate our wedding day with our most loved ones🩷💍

AITA for thinking my MIL is unkind?

Long story short back in February my Fiance and I moved back to WI into his parents summer home. The understanding was that we would be able to stay until the beginning of summer of next year (2027) to help us get back onto our feet. 2025 was a rough year for us so we jumped on the opportunity for some help. They are snowbirds and we all understood that we would be living together for a few months over summer but with how busy everyone is we would barely see each other.

Now for my future MIL - she is not a bad person per se but the fact that she’s struggling with aging - it’s really starting to show. My fiance does not have a healthy/close relationship with his own mom because of how hard she can be around. For example her sister made an extremely racial comment a few years ago and we have since cut ties (my mom is an immigrant and I am mixed) and she keeps saying we need to put family first and move on. Well certain things are not ok to simply “push under the rug”

She has been back for two weeks and is now making excessive passive aggressive comments about tiny things. There is a scratch on her dryer, an old towel used for cleaning now has a new stain on it. Something exploded in the microwave. (Unknown what I used it this morning and it was fine)

We now feel forced to move out while his dad has mentioned over and over again that it’s ok if we stay longer take the time we need.

I feel so hated by my own future MIL is it even worth trying to have a relationship with her? If she’s already making excessive passive aggressive comments about us two weeks into being around each other what does a life time turn into?

Now I know I’m not her exact cup of tea either so we do have our differences there. My poor fiance is just devastated that this is how she treats us when we’re about to get married. He’s so embarrassed that this is how she chooses to welcome people into a family.

Sorry for the rant. Once I typed this out I realized that there is a lot worse things that she could be doing. I don’t know if I have warped her into being a worse person than she actually is or if she really is as terrible as she’s becoming and now it’s just proving to be true.

Looking for a rental

Hey everyone!! Long story short, my fiance and I are getting pushed out of our current home (we rent from his parents and it’s a long complicated story of how people age and become less kind) either way we are looking for a rental in the Waukesha area. Looking for preferably a 2 bed 2 bath, en suite laundry, allows pets and a garage. Obviously I know this can be a wish list of items but looking for approximately <$1800 a month.

No history of eviction, he has good credit while mine is fair and two cats one of which is esa certified.

Please send recommendations my way! Looking for a reliable landlord.

Beginner professional camera

Ok so the title may be a bit misleading but hear me out please!!

My fiance and I are getting married in Puerto Vallarta in December of this year and we’re trying to do it as budget friendly as possible. Our wedding package through the resort comes with a photographer for the ceremony and cocktail hour and additional costs are simply astronomical. Bringing in our own photographer isn’t an option either as the resort charges an insane fee.

Either way we’re toying with the idea of purchasing a beginner professional camera for both us and our guests to have fun with and take photos during the reception and to have better quality photos than what our phones can take for the duration of the trip. I have taken a few beginner photography courses and my fiancé is skilled in photoshop/photo editing with his prior work.

Really looking for some solid recommendation around $500 or so.
