I didn’t think it was possible that I could like THE CURE even more…

since getting back into my record collection- I have new found appreciation for THE CURE

playing their albums and then the reminder that I knew every track and I could start humming the next song as the current track ends just reminds me of how much I listened to them when I was younger and how good they sound as I’m older. I’m happy that his music or their music if you will has aged so well and I like them even more as I’m older.

Here is my Robert Smith collection

I have been collecting since 1984ish.

The Cure and Robert Smith gave me a reflection of my emotions/feelings at that time of my life and all of it has aged well.

cheers

A very old friend…

i’ve lived with this album for so long now and it a major part of my life since first listening to it. I think because this album is a compilation album, it actually plays like having conversations with a good friend that you always walk happy from the exchange.

One of the best compilation albums out there. And to think this was early in his career.

The cure standing on the beach, the singles what was not to love with this

The Cassandra Complex – “Datakill”, a UK 12-inch 45 RPM single on Rouska, catalog COME 5T, released in 1986.

I remember when I grabbed this out of the bargain bin and happily payed the $1 circa late 80s

hold up well - I appreciate it more now than when I first got it. songs are well structure.

😭Circle Jerks – Group Sex (1980 1st Press Frontier) Jacket + Inserts

I am sad… I got my records out after 28 years and I was excited to play this first pressing that I purchased new back in early 80s. so this is a thin vinyl record and it basically cracked.

so now I am on the look out for a donor vinyl: this is a confirmed first pressing that I have based on the deadwax.

i am sad right now.

Cabaret Voltaire, the drain train

new back in the 80s in Orange County. Listening to this after so many years I didn’t realize it was the antithesis to the Art of Noisr. Love

The BELL JAR - 80s band out of Orange County California - they were the best underground band back in 1987

The Bell Jar — A Slap of Breath
Label: Out There Records
Catalog: Out There 002
Year: 1987
Recorded: Winter/Spring 1987 at Headway Studios, Westminster
Manager / label contact: Jim Palmer, Out-There Records, Midway City, CA

nice throw back to one thread of Orange County scene that was the death rock crowd, we didn’t call ourselves goth back then. we were really a bunch made up of mods, punks, ska and rockabilly people that came together under death rock music. it was such a cool open scene where all were welcomed. it all spilled together back then with small concert venues, house parties and a club scene that all had a cohesive theme played to this newly forming crowd. this album captures it well.

AAAK — Big Fist / KK Records 1990 industrial EBM

i’ve had this industrial album or 33 plus years. haven’t listened to it in. a long time. but wow it has held up. i am going to have to give many more listens as I am both hearing hints of so many songs in the 90s and they also play homage to earlier bands: AAAK - BIG FIST is worth a listen.

also if you have a kick ass system the engineer of this album mixed it superbly

Bonafides - The Cure Spotify.com/20

I feel I underperformed and I need to step up some more The Cure listening. This is over 15 years of listening on Spotify. I have a feeling many you on this r/thecure thread will be higher. Spotify.com/20

of course, I do have my cure vinyl records that I listen to regularly. and I was not unhappy that the cure was my number one streamed band that I’ve listened to for the last 15 years.

It is such a pleasure to listen to music on Klipschorns

my Klipschorn consecutive serial numbers ( I imagine that’s not rare but it is nice) and they have custom crossovers from ALK Engineering built specifically for my Klipschorns by Al Klappenberger himself, now retired,  and he matched the crossovers specific to my pair of speakers. So thanks for noticing as they are amazing to listen to. I am lucky to have acquired them as the second owner.

my signal chain:

MM AN IQ3 cart paired with a Rega P6 connected to the phono stage of the Airtight ATC-1 driving a 8W PER CH ATM-300 with authentic western electric 300B tubes. I made my own cables as I needed one to by 25 feet for the room

Tonight’s listening

THE METERS - a jazz funk band

then listened to all 3 albums from Automatic

Closing the night with Depeche Mode Some Great Reward - which has aged really well.

I think what I love most about these speakers the most is if you’re not in the critical point they are very forgiving the way they fill the room with sound. I’m just there’s a presence of in the room, not directional so the left and right channels kind of blend together if you’re not at crossover point of them so if you’re at the crossover, you get a real great stereo sound but when you’re out of the crossover, the sound doesn’t get bad because it actually mixes altogether so you kinda hear that left right separation disappears such that it makes it easier to listen to them, so if you’re in a different part of the room sitting it’s not annoying. you’re not constantly reminded that you’re not sitting at the optimal spot. They’re very forgiving in that way.

And I think I got the right analog chain that drives them beautifully

Cheers

Nakamichi RX-202 finally got one

I picked this up $450 here in the Bay Area and he threw two boxes of tapes I will never use as I am no longer recording to tape but i do have a 1000 cassettes to play.

the seller was asking $500. he did provide all documentation, manual, service manual and etc in 6 pdfs. and that was nice. I ran through everything and it all works. He did service the deck but did not replace the belt, so not a full service, but he gave me the new belt. as I said all seems to work well and no weird or random noises. seems very solid. I know this is not the Dragon but it also isn’t the dragon price.

I wanted something that I felt will fit in with my Sony XA777ES CD PLAYER.

now I have to pick up some shelving for HiFi on Etsy and stack some items to make room.

as I see many ask - how did I do?

You should try Automatic

I got into this band after cruel world when they played their many years back. The drummer is the daughter of Kevin Haskins from Bauhaus. She no longer plays with him right now. She quit the band because she’s starting her family so the opportunity to see them as a three-piece band is done for now. Hopefully, she rejoined them. They have three good albums out I highly recommend.

Suggest cart or stylus replacement for two turntables, 70s pioneer turntable and an 80s techniques turntable.

I have a Technics SL-B303 ( my first turntable when, purchased new). I think the cartridge to be Audio-Technica AT12-series cartridge, most likely AT12S / AT12Sa family. The stylus currently installed looks like a Audio-Technica ATS12S / ATN12S-style Shibata stylus based on research. i have had this since the early 80a when I was in high school.

The second turntable in the picture is a Pioneer PL-530 that I purchased used on the early 90s. Yes the person painted and I plan to strip it and restore it. based on research the cart is a Pickering XV-15 cartridge body and the stylus needs to be replaced upgraded or the whole cart.

I also have a Empire and Rega turntable that are all sorted out.

my end goal here is to the pick three low cost MM phono amps to RCA and put the three turntables on display into a three way rca switch and plug that into a source input on my preamp. My rega will stay plugged into the preamp phono stage.

Looking for any and all suggestions on rehabbing these two TT and appreciate and welcome all and comments and suggestions.

first priority is getting the carts/stylus worked out and new belt for the techniques.

the 4 TT I own.
Rega / P6 / Audio Note IQ3 MM
Empire / 298 / Empire cartridge
Pioneer / PL-530 / Pickering XV-15
Technics / SL-B303 / cartridge model not confirmed

thanks in advance for your time

Inherited Empire turntable please help identify

This was given to me for my wife’s uncle’s estate. I believe the turntable is a 298 and the is a 990. I would love to get information on what I have if you guys can help me out here and I’m looking to get a cartridge or a new needle for my current cartridge but I get a set so I could set aside the cart right now because it’s a beautiful cart and I would like to get a backup belt because this thing actually still works. I’ve already been using it, but I got my Riga P6 and replaced it.
