What tools and resources would help Bronxites be more successful?

I think we can all agree that there’s lots of complaining in this group– and if you know the history of The Bronx and how we’ve been left to fend for ourselves, it’s not unwarranted. My thing is, I come here, I see other social media about The Bronx and most of it is problems and frustration with no real solutions.

The Bronx is larger than many major cities, so we’re coming from many diverse neighborhoods. However, our problems tend to be similar and it’s be helpful to pinpoint what each community or neighborhood is facing, and coming together to share information, resources, and problem solve. We’re all we’ve got.

I work in a unit that is very, “We’re one big family.” Colleagues are forever having surprise birthday parties, baby showers, and retirements for each other. The issue is that this is not applied equally across staff.

For example, staff with December birthdays got one big cake, while March birthdays were ignored with the exception of one manager.

Another thing is that we’re often asked to contribute to surprise baby showers and such for staff, with gifts or cash. I’m already not in the “in group” as it is. The celebrations are every month or two and the asks are getting to be a bit much.

How can I avoid participating or contributing without being ostracized? Or is that even possible?

In NYC, Grenada, T&T, etc. there are websites and IG accounts that advertise fetes and events for that country/city. Does Barbados have specific sites or accounts like this (I’m talking outside of and beyond Cropover season)?
