Water always finds a way and ice is one strong mofo. Make sure water has a place to drain. Consider condensation being a factor too as a water source. Consider air holes on the top too to help avoid a vacuum from forming. Here are some trolly power line supports in Philadelphia. You can see the second one is seeing signs of the same damage.
