My Genesis igniter finally died after 33 years

My father bought this 3 burner Genesis in 1993. When I moved out to a house, he got himself new one with a side burner so he gave me his original in 2004.

Over the years I upgraded to stainless grates and flavorizers, replaced the crossover tube and the plastic-wood platform that melted a bit after a grease fire in the lower basin... But the igniter soldiered on.

Until now, 33 years later. After some hit or miss last year, the internal plunger spring wouldn't engage to click at all this summer so it was time for a replacement. I'm amazed it made it this long so I thought I'd share. I doubt the replacement igniter will last as long but we shall see.

She's old and a bit dirty but still cooks well!

I wish I had waited and not used Costco Concierge for TV return

I realize this may be a less common situation but I'm still annoyed and want to vent, with the hopes someone else might learn from my situation.

I bought a 65" Sony OLED TV in June 2024 for $1500 on sale as the new models were due out the next day. As with most TVs at my Costco warehouse, they included the Allstate additional 3 year warranty for free.

In May of this year my OLED panel developed 2 bright pixels that caused a vertical line when lit up. So I put in a warranty claim and was told by Allstate that since it's not quite 2 years old, I should go through Costco Concierge.

After 45 minutes on the phone with Costco Concierge, they make an appointment to send someone out. After staying home from work to let the TV guy look at it, it's (obviously) determined that it's an OLED panel defect and not repairable.

Weeks go by and after a few logistical hiccups, they approved my claim, which apparently means returning the TV to the store.

Which is where my gripe comes in. I only get refunded the purchase price, which isn't enough to buy the replacement TV, because I bought it on sale.

And had I just waited another month and put in the claim through Allstate, they'd have just shipped me a replacement or offered replacement cost, and I wouldn't have to pony up the extra cash to buy the equivalent replacement TV, or go through the return hassle, much less the time spent on the phone and a day off work.

So that's basically the lesson. If you bought a TV on sale and you're near the 2 year threshold, consider waiting and going through Allstate rather than Costco Concierge.

Consumed by Media... that I won't get for a week?

I wish they'd have shipped before the release date so it would arrive somewhat sooner. I added another item apart from the Big Modern album when I placed the pre-order, so I don't know if that's part of the delay?

Anyone else seeing the same arrival date?

AP1 wheel refinishing?

So for the last few years I've watched my wheel clear coat go from bad to awful/non-existent, but I'm coming due for new tires and the opportunity to do something about it.

Ideally I'd like to have them refinished to the factory look, retaining the machined face.

Anyone have recommendations on where to get this done? Approx price? I'm in CT if there's somewhere regional I could transport them to.

Would anyone else support a "teen member" add-on card? What's the most effective way to suggest it to the company?

So like many families, we have two adults and two children in the house. Our executive membership has the two available cards assigned to myself and my wife. But my daughter will turn 16 later this year and start to drive.

What's somewhat unique to our lives is that despite being in a fairly suburban town of barely 20k people, I-95 runs through it, so we have a Costco that is legitimately the closest gas station to our house and a go-to 3x a week for food and whatever else.

When she starts driving , I'd like for my daughter to be able to get gas or pick up some milk or eggs, but the only way to do that without going with her is to buy another full membership, which is frustrating when she will still live at the same home as us for 2+ years.

I don't expect freebies, but would others support something like a $10 "teen account" 3rd card add-on for this situation? I would think it would be somewhat popular. I have no problem proving the same address.

And more to the real question: is hand writing this in the suggestion box at the store the most effective method of requesting it, or is there a better approach I should take?

If you change your own oil (4th gen) consider buying more now.

People had previously reported the Toyota memo on upcoming oil shortages, especially in these lower weights. My local Walmart actually ran out of all their 5qt jugs of Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum and SuperTech in this weight.

Napa had a decent deal where two jugs were $50 with shipping included.

Anyway, if you DIY your changes, consider getting some now.

So we got a 2025 Sienna Platinum despite not really wanting the FridgeBox, although I tried keeping an open mind. We really wanted the heated steering wheel and HUD. (360° cam is nice too). The fridge has been a novelty that was largely useless until this past week when we took a road trip, 680 mi each way.

After 5 hours I reached back to get a soda and find it's barely cool. Warmer than when I put the soda in there. I touch the walls of the FridgeBox and they're not cold at all. Button still shows it's on. I switched to Freezer mode. But when I reached the destination after 10 total hours, it's basically ambient temp. I had to throw out the remaining yogurt tubes and cheese snacks for the kids.

I was using the inverter to power a separate cooler (because the FridgeBox is tiny) and was primarily driving in Eco mode, but that never affected the short term use so far.

When I start the van, the FridgeBox interior walls do get cold, so it's not totally broken. It just seems to stop running after a couple hours, but I don't know why.

The owners manual via the app has no information on the FridgeBox or it's operating parameters. I would expect that if the light is on, it's running. But clearly it doesn't do that.

What am I missing?
