I am obsessed with watching the complete 14 year run of the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet! I love watching David and Ricky grow up before my eyes on television. Each family member was so talented and funny. The show reminds me of my childhood with appliances and props of days gone by . The commercials and public service announcements that were part of the show and who can forget Ozzie and Harriet’s pride in their sons as they would promote products such as listerine of Kodak cameras or a cover of TV guide ! i was amazed to learn that the boys actually auditioned for there roles on television and Ozzie convinced the sponsors and ANC that because he and Harriet were a married couple in real life that it was ok from season 3 onward for them to sleep in the same bed since it was realistic and Ozzie had creative control and owned the rights to the show. which was rare! Lucy and Desi ’s situation over at CBS was more complicated. Does anyone else enjoy the nostalgia of old products while watching the show. ?
i read Roots as a young adolescent! I picked it from my aunt‘s book closet ! I found it hard to get through but important that I did. I had just seen the mini series on tv and that was s hard pill to swallow. The life and times of Kuta. Kitna. snd his heritage was one story I would never forget. I struggled with the book getting through the hardships of cruelty and laughed at the closeness and bonds of the family born into slavery ! Nothing could break them. ! I mention this book now because it is so important what Alex Haley’s family endured should never be forgotten and we should celebrate how far black ( and minority )people have come in order to be treated as equals in society. Perhaps this book should be read or reread as a reminder that instead of erasing valuable history. We should learn from it and appreciate what those before us had endured so that we can enjoy our rights and freedoms and never look back other than to learn from and grown beyond as equals in today’s society.
