What’s your favourite song and why?

The lyrics in Dominic’s music always hold meaning and a story which is my favourite thing about his discography.

One of my main favourites is How much is weed?
At the lowest point of my depression all I could feel was frustration with everything especially people who couldn’t grasp/understand my state at the time.

“Everybody looking at me like i’m not invested
Bitch, you know how hard I was stressing?
Please, don’t call me with weekend plans
I’m ripping out all my hair”

I also love Why, since there was a time I was unnecessarily forcing myself to spend time with people I didn’t want to be around just for validation.

“Why would you pay for this apartment you don't belong in?”

I’m interested to see what others’ input are!

Emotional abuse drives you crazy.

Constant belittling. Gaslighting you. Trying to guilt-trip you. Acting normal one moment just to betray you again later on and remind yourself why you distanced from them in the first place. “What did I even do to you!?”
Making you look like the crazy one and the problem. Talking bad about you to others (by explaining a watered down version of what they did to antagonise you and make themselves seem like an angel).
Them acting normal while you suffer from their actions.

It really messes with your brain.

-Bonus points if you’re a scapegoat and have siblings that side with the Nparents.

Edit: Had no idea this many people related. I even initially thought what I was going through wasn’t emotional abuse and I was ready for people to tell me I was dramatic.

You are not wrong, you feeling like this is a result of the unfair environment you were placed in. Protect your mind as much as possible. Much love to everyone

Parents Ruining social life

My (17F) curfew is 3-3:30pm. And i’m only allowed to head to the mall or gym. Anytime i’m invited to a party i’m always first to leave as my parents don’t seem to understand why I must have fun for more than 2 hours.
(I’m only allowed to a party once every two months otherwise it’s “too much freedom”). I must go straight home after school, it’s unnecessary to eat out with friends who invited me, just have family time instead.

My parents wonder why I’ve lost all my friends. They scoffed when I tried to convince them to let me live my last year in high school as a teenager.
Parents: “Why aren’t you spending time with us anymore!?”

How does guilt affect you?

I feel guilt every aspect of my life due to people or problems. For example I feel ashamed even going to therapy for burning money on something I can’t help.
Or wasting money on the gym as my mental health demotivates me from attending. Feeling like my depression is my fault since i’m burdening everyone around me.

I’m wondering how other people deal with this and how it affects them? Is it something that stays with you and you just learn to harness it better?
I’d like to hear the perspectives/experiences of others.

Afraid to go to therapy (17F)

I’m going to see a therapist soon as i’ve been suspecting something wrong with my mental health for a while now. I’ve been reluctant to go in fear of a few things.

I’m afraid to express my problems , what if they’re not as serious as I thought and i’ve just been dramatic this whole time? Or what if there really was an issue but i’m unable to express it properly and the therapist overlooks me? I’m worried about being unreasonable and a waste of time, or
being judged that my problems are minor and I’m exaggerating my feelings.

I’m concerned that if that was the case or if I faced a therapist who I felt did not care about me or somehow made me feel worse it would put me into a deeper pit of sadness. I feel as if I have no one, so my last straw would be my therapist not empathising with me.

It’s hard for me to talk to people. So the idea of sitting infront of a therapist expected to just explain everything is extremely difficult and I’m worried I won’t not be able to communicate how I feel properly.

I’d like to apologise in advance if this is all over the place. My brain is still fogged up from a recent situation and I just finally made my decision to start therapy, and I’m not fully educated on it i’ll admit.

Feeling hopeless from strict parents-Am I being dramatic?(17F)

I have never been allowed to leave my house alone. My parents forbid me from using any sort of public transport or even walking home after school with my friends because they’re convinced i’ll get kidnapped. I live in one of the safest countries in the world. They will only drive me somewhere to see my friends once a month and it has to be 1pm-4pm, on a rare day they are off work. Even then they complain I’m going out too much and I’m too demanding. When I ask to just start taking the bus they get furious and tell me I should be grateful they’re driving me at all. Although my friends are kind they had stopped hanging out with me a long time ago because of my strict schedule- naturally I became left out of my only friend group as I’m never able to join them and I gave up on going out at all.

I asked if I could atleast attend the gym for myself, which was followed by them ignoring my request and ‘we can’t drive you there all the time’. This was really upsetting for me as working out is the only thing that helps my mental health. I also never got to take part in the sports team at school because they didn’t want to get me after practice. Im not even allowed to get a part time job for the summer.
Ontop of everything they get mad at me for always being on my phone or in my room.

After ages of trying to talk to them I just decided to leave and take the bus on my own to the shopping mall with my friends during the day from 1pm-4pm without their permission. When I came home it was pure rage ,continuous screaming at me and hitting from my parents. I tried to reason with them to let me start socialising and going out more, but they just went on about me being disrespectful, cursed at me, and cursed my (only three) closest and longest friends that they knew for years who were supposedly “effing their boyfriends and doing drugs”.

My father argues about ‘spending more time with your family’ (Despite the fact im always at home) or ‘are your friends better than us’ and ‘I bet you’ll abandon us in the future’. He gets furious when I don’t watch a movie with him, complaining I used to when I was young. Recently he asked me why my childhood friend of 14 years stopped talking to me, and I replied it was because I always had to decline all her invitations since I could never go out- This was a sensitive topic to me as I’ve lost connection with all of my friends from this issue. He went on telling me how ungrateful I was and how I was never happy with my life.

I just feel so alone as everyone around me is experiencing life while I’m locked at home and being called a terrible daughter. Because of this I’ve missed countless invitations, lost friendships and there were even some kind guys who were interested in me I had to push away because I would not have the chance to see them. I’ve been struggling for years with being anxious in the outside world from the lack of social interaction and independence. As a result im terrified of speaking up at school and im worried about my future since social life plays a big part especially in college.
