ppe with mid/ bad grades

Hello, I am thinking about applying for PPE at oxford but my predicteds are A*AA and gcses are 999988877
from a school averaging a grade 7.

I know people say tara matters the most, but every offer holder I have talked to has had near perfect grades.

Has anybody made it to the interview stage with similar grades/ been carried by the tsa? I think the closer to application I get the more anxious I am.
Thank you

gap year for oxbridge?

hi everyone im posting for a friend.

so she is in year 13 now with an offer for manchester history and is very contextual eg. estranged, care leaver.

she wants to go into law and is wondering whether there is a point of reapplying for oxford law next year?

for context these are her gcses from a school with a rough average grade of a 4.5.

Sociology 9
Media 9
Re 9
History 8
Language 8
Lit 7
Science 5-5
Maths 5
Russian 5
French 4

and she reckons she got anywhere from bbb to a*aa in a levels. our school predicts one grade up as in aaa becomes three a stars.

edit: her a levels are art history, history and politics

any guidance is really appreciated!

Am i cooked for ppe

Hi. I just got back my predicted grades where and got

A* politics
A econ (I am appealing)
A maths
B physics (I’ll probably drop for an EPQ)

I have 999988877 at gcse and went to a relatively low achieving private school where I scored likely in the top 10-15% of my cohort. The average gcse at my school was 7.2 and mine is 8.2 for context.

I really want to do PPE at oxford and have been told i interview well and know i can score highly in TARA (touch wood). Am I already ruled out because of grades or is there hope. Please let me know if theres any sort of chance left for me. A bit dramatic but you get the idea.

also is it worth shifting to hsps due to the higher interview rate?

Moving on from the iphone se 2020

Hi! I have had an iphone se second generation (2020) for 6 years now. I desperately need a new phone as the battery is at about 50% and the screen is coming off in pieces!

I am looking to get a new refurbished iphone from giffgaff and am wondering what the best model to get is. I am looking to save money and do not need the fanciest phone (clearly with me holding onto my se for so long!)

I'm considering anything from the 11-14 range but don't know what provides best value for money.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

HSPS vs PPE

Hi I’m in year 12 and considering HSPS at Cambridge. I am wondering if any current students or alumni would be able to tell me how well HSPS is received in the job market.

For context, I originally wanted to apply for PPE but think HSPS may apply better to my goals of public policy and/or politics.

I know this may seem a bit of a silly question but I don’t really have anybody in my life who may know. Any help is really appreciated, thank you!

Feeling of not doing enough

Does anybody else find that the more they revise, the less they feel like theyre improving and the less they feel as though theyre doing? Idk if theres a reason but im really curious abt it.

For context, in the lead up to my exams I’ve gone from 1-2hrs a day to around 10 consistently. (Ik this is way too much and I’ll get burnt out but its only 2 ish more weeks so its worth it for the academic comeback). However, I feel like such a bum every spare second im not revising eg. walking to school. Whereas before I would doomscroll for hours and think I was so locked in.

I’d love to hear from other people if they’ve experienced this and if anyone else has found a solution/reason behind it.

Hi, Sorry I know these posts are annoying and highk look beggy but it would be really helpful because my school wants us to start thinking about our choices.

I am in year 12 in a state school with theses predicted grades:

Politics A*
Econ A*
Maths A
Physics A

And these GCSES from relatively low achieving private school (eg. exam performance below a grammar school but above a comprehensive)

Maths - 9
Physics - 9
English Literature - 9
Physical Education - 9
Design Technology - 8
Computer Science - 8
Latin - 8
English Language - 7
Chemistry - 7

I expect my personal statement will be quite good as I have done a lot of supercurriculars eg. mpc, work experience, founder of initiative, committees, advisory boards

I am thinking about applying for PPE or politics and econ at some of these unis:

Oxford (Contingent on a decent TARA score ofc)
LSE (for phil and econ, or something that doesn’t need an A* in maths)
Bath
Edinburgh
Manchester
Leeds

Would anybody be able to advise me on my chances of getting in for any of these unis or be able to help me with any recommendations for other unis. Any advice is really appreciated.
