Harmony of Contrasts

It took just one evening to create this miniature. This is my first piece of this kind. The base is made of cardboard bonded with PVA glue. In the final stage, I applied acrylic paints—natural yet expressive colors.

I hope you like it!

The r/CardboardArchitecture subreddit! 📦 Today marks the start of the first matchbox miniature contest! (+ My non-competitive entry — for inspiration)

https://preview.redd.it/9q6zne4chgth1.jpg?width=711&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=114348c491d9c835f806bb8cbea05cb829032c9c

Welcome to the r/CardboardArchitecture subreddit!

We are thrilled to announce the first-ever contest in our community's history! 🛠️✨

The Challenge: Create an architectural composition (a house or building facade) inside a standard matchbox.

🧱 The Main Rule Regarding Materials:

Since our subreddit is dedicated to cardboard architecture, the main part of the structure must be made of cardboard. However, we aren't limiting your imagination when it comes to details! You can use any materials at hand—wire, moss, plastic, flocking—to create realistic elements like tiny trees, flowers, grass, windowpanes, or railings. Cardboard provides the form, while the details create the magic!

For inspiration, here is an example of my own work; as a moderator, I am not participating in the contest. This miniature is just a fun test project designed to help you test your skills and spark your creative spirit!

🏆 Prizes and Awards:

• 🥇 1st Place (Winner): A unique "King of Cardboard Micro-Dioramas" flair (badge) for one month; a link to your profile will be pinned in the "Useful Links" section (on the sidebar) of the subreddit's main page under this badge.

• 🥈 2nd Place: An exclusive "Micro-Diorama Master" flair for one month. The winning entry will be featured in the "Hot News" section for a full month!

• 🥉 3rd Place: An exclusive "Micro-Diorama Creator" flair for one month!

📝 How to Participate:

  1. Create a miniature cardboard composition inside a matchbox. 2. Post a photo of your work in our subreddit with the tag 🏆 "Contest Entry".
  2. Include the phrase "Matchbox Contest" in the post title.

⏰ Timeline:

The contest runs from October 5 to October 25, 2026. Winners will be determined based on voting and participant activity, and the results will be announced on November 1! You’ll be amazed at how much detail can fit into such a tiny box. Good luck and happy crafting! 📦✂️

A Cozy Stylized Cottage. Using Architectural Imperfections to Create a Fairytale Look!

This house is a stylized version of a country cottage, intentionally distorted in proportions for a more decorative effect. If you look closely at the architectural style, it's far from anatomically accurate—the window frames are a bit bulky, the roof is too steep, and the tiles are disproportionate. But honestly, I think it's these "imperfections" and the thick lines that give it a warm, fairytale-like, handmade charm. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this style choice!

My little pink Victorian miniature house. What do you think?

Hey guys, wanted to share a miniature pink house I built a while back. Assembled the frame from scratch using heavy cardboard and hand-painted the rest. Spending hours on the tiny fence and arched windows in my workshop was a solid weekend project. Let me know your thoughts!"

One of the latest projects is a medieval house made of cardboard.

Hi everyone! I'd like to share one of my latest projects. It's made entirely of cardboard, but I tried to create a house that looks like it's made of stone and wood. What do you think?

One of my latest miniature projects: a country house.

It's entirely handmade. I used cardboard for the base, roof, and everything else, then painted it with acrylic paints. It took several days, but I really love how the architecture turned out!

My work from the past: a miniature cardboard house. 🏠👇

Today I'll share one of my favorite projects, one that still makes me smile. Just look at the details: the textured white walls with exposed brick, the tiny wooden shutters, and the vibrant tiled roof! Each house is a story unto itself, crafted entirely by hand. For me, it's a simple yet touching miniature work of art. Want to see it from all sides? Share your thoughts in the comments! ✨👇

Need help with the dimensions of this historic estate (Belarus). I have a photo and a floor plan, but I'm no expert.

Hello!

I'm trying to determine the exact dimensions of this historic house known as the Khalchan Palace (located in Belarus). I'm not an architect or specialist, so I don't know how to calculate them accurately. I have a good copy of the first floor plan, but it doesn't have numbers or scale lines.

For convenience, I've attached a photo of the house from the front.

Here's what I know from local articles:

- The total length of the front wall is approximately 32 meters.

- The width (depth) of the building is between 14 and 15 meters.

- The estimated overall height is approximately 9-10 meters (each floor is approximately 3.5-4 meters high, plus the roof).

Using this plan and photo, could you help me determine the exact dimensions of the building itself, the distances between columns, and the sizes of windows and doors?

Any help, advice, or simple calculations would be greatly appreciated! I would like to use these dimensions to create a miniature cardboard model of this beautiful palace!

Thank you very much!
